Re: ugh, don't let me look at Craigslist
You can't even really judge how long her back is at that angle plus, she has no Point of her butt - no muscle there to fill out and put some length on her hind quarter. A 3 circle horse - is ideal - she's not as long as say, a saddlebred, and they are still able to be ridden fine.
I'd go get her. No wonder her back is sore. Bones sticking out and all.
I disagree about her loin, it's her coupling that is weak and peaky. It looks about a hands width for the loin and she looks pretty close. The peaky part will improve with food and work. It will take you a year to get her looking decent.
(edited drunken looking sentence)
Re: ugh, don't let me look at Craigslist
Honestly, it looks like the same problem Mist has:: No topline.
We asked our vet about Mist's behavior, and he said that it was probably because she had no topline and was hurting from it. It made the saddle fit weird, and she didn't have the muscle to support a rider. Like now, after a lot of lunging, she's building a topline and acting much better. That combined with the lovely woolly saddle pads she gets to wear, lol. They said she hasn't been acting up for them at all. I warned them that I have to use a mounting block with her, and they said they always use one anyway. With her light rider, cushy pads, the start of new muscle, and regular rub downs with liniment (which she adooores), she's been a happy camper.

I'm waiting to hear back from them. It's driving me crazy. You see so many horses in need online now and usually I'm able to pass them up (wisely, my barn is full) but there's something about this one. I just asked about the back because I can't hang on to someone else's pasture ornament indefinitely so hopefully I'll be able to rehab her and place her somewhere good.
Monsterpony, if she comes I'll be putting that shop quarantine to use!
Re: ugh, don't let me look at Craigslist
Must be nice!!! I want to do a small quarantine area! about 3/4 acre in my front side yard just in case...or for pasture liming or something....I put a garden in my paddock as it had the best sun. I miss it immensely sometimes though when I need it.
You have to keep us updated!
wish she was near me....those eyes say help me and give me a chance !!!! :sad
You'd be a basketcase if you followed me on my occasional trips to the sale barn (just for kicks) How many times I have walked off with a knot in my stomach, ignoring those looks. Todays horse to tug my heartstrings was 850 lbs and went for 14 cts (per pound) You do the math.
Have they contacted you yet, CC? :?
Re: ugh, don't let me look at Craigslist
I would say that she should be reassessed once she gets some weight and muscle on her. I would act like I had a sore back too if someone were riding me in that condition.
