This is pretty sweet!! Are the h/z lethal ones embryonic lethal? (I would assume so).

"Splashed white is a variable
"Splashed white is a variable white spotting pattern characterized primarily by extremely large blaze, extended white markings in legs, variable white spotting in belly, and often blue eyes. Some, but not all, splashed white horses are also deaf. Recent research has identified 3 mutations – SW-1, SW-2 and SW-3 - that cause splashed white phenotypes in horses. SW-1 has been found in several breeds - Quarter Horse, Paint, Trakehner, Miniature Horse, Shetland Pony and Icelandic Horse – and may be present in other breeds as well. Horses homozygous for SW-1 (SW1/SW1) have been identified, which suggests that this mutation is not homozygous lethal. SW-2 and the rare SW-3 occur exclusively in certain lines of Quarter Horses and Paints. Based on predictions from other species, SW-2 and SW-3 may be homozygous lethals and thus matings of two horses that carry SW-2 or SW-3 should be avoided.
Horses that carry combinations of the splashed white mutations, tobiano or lethal white overo can display extensive white patterning or be white."
I really hope they post which
I really hope they post which stock horse lines carry the rarer SW2 and SW3. I'm wondering how recent those mutations are and what a SW1/SW1 SW1/SW2 SW1/SW3 SW2/SW3 all look like. And the heterozygous forms of all 3!
We have at least 7 different viable genetic combinations alone with the SW locus. :-BD
Fabulous!

Really exciting news! I've updated the White Patterns Page and the color testing page to reflect.
That is awesome. I was
That is awesome. I was definitely not expecting THREE mutations. Genetics is full of surprises.
So is this test now
So is this test now publicly available and what is the cost?

AGREED! I just figured out how to get to their test forms.
Now the delima, :-? I have 12 horses and don't really want to put out $300 right now to satisfy my curiosity. So, do I test the most obvious for confirmation, or do I test the minimally marked ones that I suspect are Splash? Decisions, decisions. ~x(
^We could totally do a poll
^We could totally do a poll for you Song! Heck, I'd be glad no matter who you test just to see what they test as.
(Though I would put a vote in for Ross Neck Feathers Little Noah and Bear Farms Scholars Bright Side ^_^)

My vote is go for the suspected ones first.

I'm getting Jazzy tested! I need her frame test too.
Oh man. I love this. Not only
Oh man. I love this. Not only does it show that there are Homo-splashes, but also believes that there are lethal homo-splashes (tho I guess this was not proven yet). Can't wait to start seeing the horses which test for this. Oh man. Oh man. Oh man. The epic possibilities. I mean, this could end a dozen debates, help revive breeding programs (such as Abaco Barb), and so much more. I am literally twitching with anticipation to see what breeds get tested. I know we've found some very interesting suspects on this forum here already.
Being European myself, I am
Being European myself, I am used to having "shetland ponies" referring to the European Shetlandponies. However, from what I've heard it sometimes referrs to the American Shetland Pony when americans themselves referr to it. I am not that familiar with the breed, but does anyone know if it's the european shetlands that SW-1 could be found in?
I'm going to guess that the
I'm going to guess that the horses they tested were probably American Shetland however, considering it is found in the Icelandic, it is likely that it will be fairly widespread in European breeds as well. I'm really looking forward to seeing which breeds test positive.
How exciting !!!!

It took me a while to figure it out also.
Go to this link: https://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/myvgl/login… Create an account and sign in.
After you sign in, from the tabs on the left, select "Horse Tests" and go down to "Coat Color Test". That will bring up a page for you to fill in the information on the horse you want tested and a selection of the tests you want run. Fill it out, click "Save Test", and it will generate a form for you to print off, tape hairs to, and send in.

:love Finally, proof that splash white exist.... :bounce
I know this is terrible, but
I know this is terrible, but who else is hoping for splash to be confirmed in breeds where it isn't accepted to exist despite evidence to the contrary?
Oh, its just a matter of time
Oh, its just a matter of time and I hope everyone has their popcorn ready! ymwhisle
I'm not sure, from what I
I'm not sure, from what I read (possibly misunderstanding?) that it covers all sorts of Splash- I was worried that it might be a another Sab1 sort of thing??
UK Shetlands are known to have Splash, it is Sabino they do not have.
Apparently there are some
Apparently there are some Arabian breeders with their knickers in a twist at the moment... Can't wait to see the test results ymwhisle :rofl

That was the one I was waiting for. Arab purists make me laough. Heck, pretty much any purist this day and age would give me a good giggle LOL. But oh, they make it so much fun.

If he was mine, I would only test if I had an extra $25 laying around and wanted to put it on his ad. There is no way that boy isn't splash lol. However, this is also one breeder that at least already knows that - he is advertised as splash
Really?! Oh please let it be

Really?! Oh please let it be true!
EDIT: It is! Finally! I can't wait for the paper to be released.
EDIT 2: There are 3 mutations?!
EDIT 3: And 2 are homozygous lethal?!
