Two Colors Of Spots

just thought he was neat..might even be three colors, but hard to tell...i see super dark and much lighter...and a few that could be in between or it could be the light..lol http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariajose_pintados/2157548307/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariajose_pintados/2176893758/in/photostre…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.flickr.com/photos/mariajose_pintados/2187049113/in/photostre…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

hes very nicely marked , I have a red spotted mini with a few black spots but nothing as cool as him

Bay base, I would say, as a Chestnut obviously could not have Black spots. My colt who is Chestnut base is getting some very, very dark spots on him now, if you did not know better they would look black!
I love the first one with the heart shaped spot!!!

He has a heart shaped one on his bum! Very cool. Sure is an odd placement of black and brown....not really in line with bay.... Maybe the black spots were where some bend'ors are? Or something odd there....

Oh yes. this thread proves it. I know I replied to this thread and that reply isn't showing up.

I had said that I've seen tested palomino apps with black spots. I think it's just a wonky LP thing.

THAT was one of THE ones I was thinking of when I said that. I couldn't remember where on earth I'd seen it though. Thanks Lipi! Is he known to be palomino for sure? In his case, since it's whole body, it could be just sooty. I know one of the Appy breeding members here has a palomino leopard with a few random dark spots.

My niece has a leopard with different colored spots, although not as striking as the one Red posted. He has light and dark chestnut spots, plus a few that look black. If she ever gives him a bath, I'll take pictures. Right now all of his spots are dirt colored.

My Chestnut base colt is losing his colour fast, he will soon be a "black" base near Leopard....phenotypically, that is, he is still a Red base, obviously. Now the struggle begins to have that put on his papers......

JNFerrigno Wed, 07/14/2010 - 12:55

Wouldn't you call that the result of sooty? On both the palomino and the Bay leopard in the OP.

The lighter golden spots, I'm not sure where they come from but the travel. A seminar I went to said it was thought they were caused by a copper deficiency.

We had a chestnut leopard foal that when he got older (year or so) he'd develop a light spot on his neck. He's spots would also move on him.

Those photos on those links are now gone (got "member no longer active"), so I'm not quite sure what the spots were like, however, apps can have what are known as "sunspots" (which are light/pali-sort-of-looking spots) and can also have spots that don't "match" the base colour (i.e., chestnut/bay leopard with red and black spots on torso. Cause currently unknown.
