There was one way back when , I forgot her name...Delta something. Dam was a grey minimal tobi. Obviously she didnt stay in the breed due to the white rules. :?
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
What's the dam's pedigree?
I'm not sure...Vicki has Reminic In Spots, and I'm not sure what her connection with the Shining Spark foal is...my other source hasn't provided me with the dam's name either. The foal has what most people would say was a small hip blanket or a lacy blanket (I'd go for small hip blanket myself). Some would say "snowcap", others MIGHT say false snowcap (which could be possible--he's got a star, which could indicate sabino and thus a sabino boost to the blanket).
But to be a true snowcap, the foal would have to have two Lp carrying parents, which means that one of them would have shown some sort of pattern, having Lp and PATN. For this foal to be out of two QH parents, one has had to provide the PATN, the other Lp, and the foal inheriting the two genes (or gene complexes) to produce the coat pattern.

Well, yeah, that's what I meant :laugh1 With so much unknown as to what makes/allows Lp to express (that ellusive PATN), I look at any horse that has white on it as a potential PATN donor. And Shining Spark does have a classic blaze/snip, and what (on allbreed, anyway) could be a white sock on the left hind. Of course, he's in grass halfway up to his knees in that photo, so who knows...

Resurrecting this...Vicki's done a website for Reminic In Spots. http://www.reining-appaloosa.com/Remini…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Click on his dam's photo for a larger version AND go check out the full sister. I'm seeing a big ole ??? on her genetic make-up!

I agree, there is definately something going on with that breeding combination. :bounce I bet those 2 could produce even louder foals if bred to Appys.
I wonder if the sister would produce a "spotted foal" if bred to PATN carrier :-? ... I'd sure like to "experiment" with several different potential sires ;;) .

There is a mare that is AQHA roan minimal tobiano, and if I remember correctly all her sorrel foals are tobiano (registered APHA) all her black based ones are roan (registered AQHA) (she was bred to the same AQHA stud for all foals) and I do believe there are a couple more known tobi AQHA's out there. I have pics somewhere I will try to find them.
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
Up until recently recently, yes. Anything that went over the AQHA's white restrictions were offloaded into the APHA or sold off as grade, most likely. With the relaxation of the AQHA's excessive white rules, these horses are now allowed registration papers, so I would imagine, like the Lp "pop-outs", we'll see the other patterns popping out as well.

Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
60s 70s even the 80s I know of people that bought and sold papers for unregistered foals...there was no DNA-ing going on back then.
I got some really really cool looking reining pics , that was FUN!!! They are exciting pics to take.I will try to get some up in a little bit ..
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
Speaking of white rules, APHA is thinking of lowering the qualifying zone. I think this is awsome news for the sabinos and splashed whites. They are moving the line on the legs down to the center of the knees and hocks and the line on the face, instead of being corner of lip to base of ear, would be corner of lip to outer corner of eye to base of ear. It will be voted on at the next convention (Oct.)

The baby daddy.. He has great temperment, both their boys really did...look like hard working sturdy animals...
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
Okay, now which baby-daddy is this--never mind, just re-read the whole thread and have my "i"s crossed and "t"s dotted? So he has two white socks...hmmmm
And does anyone remember what I was supposed to ask my historian person? (man, talk about having blonde moments...think this is crossed with a senior moment, so twice as forgetful! :laugh1 )

Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
That's a blanket not a snowcap, you can see the start of spots on it if you look closely....it will probably pattern out over the rest of him as he grows older...or it might not.
Gotta love Appies :rofl :rofl
