Metallic Sheen..what causes it?

What causes a metallicy sheen(other than like...champagne or Akhal Teke's that have it)? I've got a mare here that is so metallicy looking in the sunlight....she rivals my former champagne TWH in the shine factor with it. I honestly don't remember her being this shiny before...but this is my first summer of having her back here in 3 years (she was on a feed lease to a friend out of state)and her first couple of years I owned her, she was coming back from neglect. She is on grass hay, a metabolic mineral pellet and occasional grass grazing. Noticed today she has more sabino ticking throughout her coat too which I find neat and a thin false dorsal I never really noticed before..LOL I failed at getting good pics of the shine with my cheapy camera... it gets a new copper penny to red glitter shine on the hairshafts. this pic was taken before being brushed or anything..she's outside 24/7...was a bit dusty.

I've had satin mice before....but never really heard of it in horses...lol

but yeah..she does kind of remind me of my darker orange satin mice now that I think of it, maybe a bit more of a metallic glint...but she's also a larger animal with larger hair shafts..

oh...and ACC--you aren't the only person who calls her palomino....i've had tons of people say that to me...and I always have a giggle because she isn't even one of the lighter chestnut haffys out there. She is near liver in the winter...then lightens and dapples in the summer...love the dapples :D I don't get them on my SSH.....that darn mostly white body...lol
Actually I find the lighter Haffies even less pally looking. It's her rich, GOLD look that got me. That and the WHITE looking mane.
I actually had one haffy breeder tell me what lines he thought she had in her pedigree based on color, build and height....and he was almost spot on...he had one well known one added in that she didn't have..LOL. I do love her color though, and I'm not one that likes chestnuts much. I think the flaxen mane/tail help....lol

FF - I have often mentioned on here how my "grade" QH mare Maya shines like no horse I'd ever seen that WASN'T a champaign (she isn't), but Sprite is an almost carbon copy of her. When I watched that video my mouth dropped open (although hubby swears I rarely close it  ). Matt and Hank will be doing hooves this weekend and working with the Goldie (her pali filly) so I will charge up my reg. digital camera for pixs then.

In that vid she wasn't brushed...lol I'll have to do a before and after of her as she's always shiny.

Yeah- looking forward to seeing a vid of Maya- perhaps send off some hairs to Hoofpick too if you're interested?

BTW The first photo of the coat could def be mistaken for a Pally- I was thinking it could go either way (Chestnut or) The second photo however clearly shows (to me) a light Chestnut.

The sheen is hard to measure or course, but below is another pasture fed, pasture dirty flaxen (sabino) chestnut that displays what I believe to be a very bright gloss. Could there be a relation to the flaxen? :?

I thought that's just how healthy red horses shine? :?
The only ones I've had that cant get that at any time are kind of smudged looking from sooty. But the rest all seem to have the ability to shimmer particularly in a new summer coat before they get sweaty.

I think it's just random. Maggie is a flaxen chestnut and she doesn't shine like that although she does dapple.

My shiny ones right now are Ginny (wild bay), Fly (liver chestnut), and oddly Phoebe (grey). Isabelle usually shines quite a bit but she's been through a lot this year,
