Hair pics

OK just a few while I'm at lunch... First is a dun...notice the color loading to one side...The mare had the most extreme stripes so wasn't a suprize. Second is hair from a buckskin....Both these horses had coats very similar color buckskin but of course the first I consider a dun (dunskin)

The "dark gold strands" you can see in the second pic are present in all the irridecent coats of all colors but hardly in the non-irridecent.

Have so many more but as I've put them in word I'm having heaps of trouble saving them back on the computer...(may have to give it a kick! )

Oh, how fascinating... :-bd Do you think it will now be possible for you to tell what color a horse is based solely on hair samples? I can't wait to see other samples...and I was totally surprised to see the white between a cremello and pinto were noticably "different" :bounce :laugh1

Hoofpick we have been discussing on another post Zebras - any chance if we can get you some hair samples that you could look at them against your Dun ones ???

Zebra hairs would be brilliant!!!!! Yes please!! :flower (one from that Sorria-sp-as well...)
Determining color is very difficult with this as it is all about what you actually see. For example, a light reddish bay could be so similar to a rich chestnut that you wouldn't be able to tell.Having said that, as you saw with the cremello (perlino is similar) and white there is a big difference as there is with black. The dilute colors are different but only recognisable as a group rather than their base colors. Dun as you see is very different but again hard to tell the base color.
Remember guys this is not 100% but I am happy to do this for everyone (more the better!) and even better still if there is the DNA test to confirm.

For those interested I have stated loading up an album with explanations of the hairs in the photo gallery.
