I agree the foal looks more bay than buck, but I suppose it *could* happen. I know I've seen palomino foals that looked RED and did NOT look pally. As for the dun markings, they look like countershading, to me; the markings just aren't very deep, dark and defined ... which suggests counter-shading and which is also *very* common in non-dun foals. In addition, I think the leg stripes you are seeing are probably 'watermarks' from the hair curling/waving from the amniotic fluid.
Haha, yea, I breed friesians and andys and know of watermarks. xD I'm referring to the front right knee in that last picture. Could just be off shading though.
Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
I don't think dun. But then again, I really didn't think cream either until I read about the sire. This was why I recommended getting little Ditto tested, because some foals just don't show the cream that well. I sure would like to know for certain the sire really is a DD though.

I had to go back and look, I *really* had to look hard, but I think I see what you mean, though they look like very faint gray shadows ... I would still have to say countershading: if it *were* dun, the markings would be unmistakable.

Here is another post by her:

She mentioned the "buckskin duo" so I'm not sure if the horse in the other pasture is the one she is referring to or not. The large gelding is supposedly a friesian warmblood.
That is one adorable foal! Just wow! And naughty! :D
A-Freaking-adorable!
It is much darker then Ditz, but I'd say it's shed out a dark buckskin... Or would it be brown=creme?
Do we have a term for brown=creme? :D
I believe its being called smoky brown

I wonder if she's got a good picture of the foal's eyes?
Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
Will this foal be Buckskin or Smokey Black? It looked too dark, to me, and the 'buckskin-looking' pics looked like dark-hair sun-fade.
I *loved* this photo of mare/foal:

Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
The Abby foal posted above DOES look cream to me. The OP doesn't.
No, from what I've seen and heard many smokey brown foals don't look cream as a foal... and sometimes don't even look cream as an adult. That probably makes the most sense.
I don't see smokey black at all.
Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
The Abbi foal is a ringer for my section B Buckskin, although a lot darker in colour, it is the same "type"!!
The bay foal looks like a bay foal, the one on this page, I mean.
I have seen quite a few visual Smoky Blacks now and none looked like a bay, at any stage, although I have to admit I have not seen that many from foal right through to adult, to see what "stages" they went through, could be black, of course, but I doubt Smoky Black......
Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
If anybody's interested, here's my colt that everyone claims will be smokey black, through his color changes so far:

Re: Ok, not MY foal. lol
From foal to 6mo ... he looked *just* like my black colt from a Grulla/Palomino cross. I never had him color tested (1988) but while he could have carried cream and had no agouti ... he def missed out on dun. *pout*
I had thought for sure I'd get something interesting (color-wise) out of a black dun and pally cross, but I didn't.
