I do like Appendix Quarter Horses.

Basically I'm trying not to introduce any breeds into my program that I don't like riding myself. I used to ride a kick-ass little black Appendix QH back when I was working for that hunter trainer.

What is an Appendix QH ????.....is it something to do with your bowels ?? :laugh1

Its a quarter horse that is 1/2 TB and hasn't been certified as full quarter horse by performance requirements. Once a horse as full quarter horse papers it can be bred to another quarter horse with full papers and all the foals will get full papers. For example a mare is bred to the TB stallion the foal (lets say a filly) gets appendix papers but then goes on to race and does well enough it is awarded full papers. The filly is bred to another TB and the foal is 75% TB by blood this foal can also be awarded full quarter horse papers by performance (don't have to be racing) and the cycle can continue. So you see a horse can have full AQHA papers and yet by blood are almost full TB. The circles most likely to have this would be racing, some speed events ie barrel racing, English events, and western pleasure horses. What you'll want to stay away from any thing that is advertised as foundation.

I think someone once told me they could be as much as 15/16ths TB and still have full papers. It's amazing really.

I think they could be 99/100 TB really. Breed a full QH to a TB get the resulting offspring a ROM breed back to a full TB get that offspring a ROM and so on and so forth.

Yes, as far as I know there is no limit. When you really go back into the past many of the original "foundation" horses where actually TB or part TB but where registered as full blood QH so if you figure in those the actual percentage of TB blood for most AQHA horses is even higher.
