Diesel

My best friend's mom's horse, Diesel. He's been changing colors more drastically now (he is now 3 1/4 years old) and Crystal is getting suspicious about his color. His sire (no photo or papers in front of me. Just had knee surgery last night so I'm not up and about looking for that stuff) is palomino (a very light one, not confused with chestnut and flaxen). Dam is Cybil (photos taken night before put to sleep. RIP :sad ): [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0005-5.jpg[…] [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0038-2.jpg[…] [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0039-2.jpg[…] And here is Diesel as a 2 year old. [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0081-1.jpg[…] [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0077-1.jpg[…] [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0073.jpg[/i…] [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0067-1.jpg[…] (note booty spot) [img]http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn81/bestfriendrob_4/DSC_0053-2.jpg[…] And these were taken yesterday. He has had a fly sheet on ALL summer (fly allergies bad) as well. Sooo... what color is Dies-Dies? :) We will be having him tested in a few weeks too. What all do you think I should include aside from extention and agouti and cream? Will add more info as available. Thanks ladies!

There are lots of way to protect your photots with differet programs ect. right click protected or watermarks. Photo companies do it all the time when they are int he business of selling their stuff. A watermark is a great option.

A friend of mine who is a professional photographer has a programme on her site that prevents you form copying or linking without her permission, apparently it is very simple?
As to it being theft, as you know, it is a moot point as when it is up on a public site it is pretty much fair game.
Good manners?
Certainly not, and something that we do not encourage on here, nor would any reputable site, but proving it and getting a conviction?
Hmm.
Which pictures were used, just as a matter of curiousity?

NZ Appaloosas Mon, 09/14/2009 - 19:23

Hey Rabbit, can you find out what that program is for me? Ta!

accphotography Mon, 09/14/2009 - 19:29

There are ways around those programs. There is ALWAYS a way around. They're only deterrence.

I fully agree with this, but apparently that just doesn't fly.

Ditto. You don't want your photos being used, don't put them on a public website.

NZ Appaloosas Mon, 09/14/2009 - 23:33

And people wonder why we don't have a website :booty No website and not posting much by way of photos online, I don't have to worry about people swiping them and doing the gods know what with them...

I have no problems with folks using the pics on my website ... I made them to show off our ponies, not to make a profit. The pics are only size 400 pixel, so they can´t be used commercially and I don´t have to worry that someone would do something for me not acceptable with them.
So feel free ........ have fun with them -- as long as you don´t say: Those are my ponies!!! (I´m going furious on that point!)

I think there is a big difference between posting a pic from a website on a message board like this one for illustrating something or to educate, and taking a pic from one website and publishing it on another. My OH found a pic someone had lifted from his website and posted on theirs- and their's was a neo-nazi site  He told them if they didn't take it off he would invoice them for use of the image- regularly every month, it soon came off their site!

I have to say that I completely disagree with this. Posting a photo on a public site should not mean that anyone is allowed to take it at all. I personally find that people who just assume anything posted is fair game are incredibly rude.

I'll take that a step further and they can SAY they own them if they pay the vet and food bills LOL I jsut dont care, there are wack jobs everywhere and they eventually get exposed for the nut jobs they are , take my pics say you own them , whatever LOL ..someday someone will put 2 +2 together....its kinda like a good mystery story when you have that kinda person play games ... :rofl Im not sayin I wouldnt get my feathers ruffled, but it is amuzing in the big picture.... Now the day someone actually steals one of my horses out of the field, well then we may have to file a missing persons report... 8-)

Jordie0587 Tue, 09/15/2009 - 13:23

Screen cap and cropping can still get pictures off websites :)

rabbitsfizz Tue, 09/15/2009 - 14:27

MP, I think everyone would agree that it is rude etc, and since it is not the intention of this Forum to upset and annoy, we shall certainly abide by anyones wishes, but I have seen the "it's illegal" thing before and it holds no water, not here and not anywhere else, either.
If it is on a public domain, and open to the public, unless it is protected so that people (ordinary peeps like us, not professional hackers) can't take it it is fair game normally!
I think the "don't take without asking" rule is a good one, and I certainly think we should, and normally would, adhere to it....I have no idea what was being alluded to, BTW, but to say it is illegal and get huffy about it, sorry, I think thatis rude and I think it was rudely put too!
I think a quiet word to a mod would have brought the required response.
If it were feasible to sue, Cathy Atkinson (FHOTD) would be in jail by now, believe me!
OK, I'm done with this. :booty

And if its not on public domain, not open to the public, and protected, it can still be fair game under "Fair use" laws too.

I agree with MP--a website is like your home, it's "your address" on the internet. Think of it this way, if you have a collection of prizewinning rosebushes at your home, open for all who walk by to see, do you want them stealing those roses? Same thing applies to photos and material on the internet.

Just because WE don't have nefarious plans for use of others' photos, doesn't mean to say that everyone else is the same way...once one has been the target of someone trying to ruin your business by passing around fake/doctored photos, anyone would have a change of heart on what's 'fair game' and what's not.
