Fugly

I am trying to be very careful about what I say about the fugly horses people want to breed to that are being posted. I just hate that a whole lot of folks will tell someone that the horse is beautiful when it's really really only has a desirable color.

Yes, have noticed today that Jordie a new member has brought up the hooves, hope CM takes it the right way.

Sara Sun, 05/17/2009 - 11:17

I sent Jordie a PM to let her know we're working on gentle education and asked her to let us know if she has any good ideas (I don't want to offend Jordie any more than I'd want to offend CMhorses)... although maybe it has already been addressed somewhere else. I have not read all the new posts this morning and probably will not have time to until this evening.

Please someone give me a large plug for my mouth !!!

Jordie has posted a halter AQHA mare and says they want to breed but she might have Hypp if she doesn't then they will as she has great conformation....

DOES SHE ?? !!!! :hammer

and it's not because she is a QH...I do like some honest but I think her confo is terrible !!!...shoulder too upright, neck placement alll wrong, back end...urgh !

Really sorry but I had to have a vent somewhere !!!

(I know my horses are no picnic but hey !!)

Apologies !!!

Edited to add - I have just had another look at her and maybe I don't understand QHs...maybe there are supposed to look like that !!!

Sara Tue, 05/19/2009 - 12:05

Lipi, I have no idea about her conformation because I honestly didn't look that hard. Quarter Horses are not my thing so I just kind of skim over those threads. At least they won't breed her if she is HYPP positive and she is in good condition. :)

lipigirl Tue, 05/19/2009 - 12:56

Sorry about my rant - I think it must just be halter QHs they are not my cup of tea at all. Hey.. I know most Pasos are camped under including my mare so what do I know !! :hammer

accphotography Tue, 05/19/2009 - 15:15

No Lipi... as far as I'm concerned, you're 100% right. I felt the same way.

lipigirl Tue, 05/19/2009 - 15:57

Luv Ya ACC - thought I was going mad !!! Thank you !!!!xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

NZ Appaloosas Tue, 05/19/2009 - 22:07

Guess I need to go have a look-see...

accphotography Tue, 05/19/2009 - 22:40

I'd love your opinion Dian as I couldn't get my husband to agree with me... so maybe Lipi and I BOTH are crazy. :rofl

NZ Appaloosas Tue, 05/19/2009 - 23:22

Where's the thread? I was expecting it in the conformation section...

And ACC, remember, I came up from the hunter/jumper FEI A Circuit...your husband may be thinking I'm as crazy as the rest. :laugh1

NZ Appaloosas Tue, 05/19/2009 - 23:41

Found it, and now I remember why I haven't posted...damned thing's got that "Impressive" butt...I can't stand the way Impressives seem to tie in at the back end...

So, my opinion? I guess if the owners want another halter horse, she's worth breeding...but I wouldn't breed any of my performance horses to her.

ACC Tell your husband he is quite obviously losing the plot !! :laugh1

Jenks Sat, 05/23/2009 - 07:29

OK - I know the slipper footed pics you are speaking of....is that the same QHs you are talking about?

I just did not comment at all since I noted that someone had said something about the feet. That's ALL I saw. feet.

We still haven't posted any Deb Bennett articles about when to start a horse. I tried to find the specific one I was thinking of and couldn't. CMhorses seems to be remaining pretty active here so I'd like to keep the education going... Jenks, do you remember which article I mean about bone development and how all breeds mature at the same rate?

Daylene Alford Sat, 05/23/2009 - 10:35

I tried doing a search for it and didn't have any luck...

I just read one yesterday, (not by DB tho) about how between 18 months and 2 years that the knees are usually ready and can be radio graphed to make sure! I was stunned! But yours sounds even more interesting.....I will keep my eyes peeled!

I just went and bought a bunch of flowers to make myself feel better. Going to plant them now, but will have to search for that when I return~

Jenks Sat, 05/23/2009 - 12:11
No Jenks, Jordie posted a Palamino halter mare QH in one of the colour sections.

Edited to add - here is the link - http://forum.equine-color.info/viewtopi…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Ya...the back legs are interesting. Camped out slightly which surprised me. toed out in the back and - what do you call that? not straight - cow hocked?.....Not my ideal horse either. Something about the placement of the stifle or....I don't know, but seeing so much narrow belly looks a little odd to me too. Tucked up but not exactly? She looks like she's sucking in her gut! LOL I think she's better than what we have seen of halter QHs.....

NZ Appaloosas Sun, 05/24/2009 - 21:27

Horses' growth plates close from the bottom up, so the knees would be one of the first to be closed. However, the back would be one of the last, and that's where the saddle and weight go....

Are people sure that the growth pattern article isn't on Dr. Deb's site?

Diane

NZ Appaloosas Sun, 05/24/2009 - 21:58

Okay, the original article Dr. Bennett wrote about skeletal maturation is called "The Ranger Piece" or something like that, around 2000/2001, and it has now been updated...http://www.equinestudies.org/ranger_200…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
