Re: Lacy's official two year pics...
 Thanks! I've got nearly a years worth of photos of her I haven't even really looked at yet, much less edited and posted. *thud* Someday I'll find the time. :?
If you ever do find that time, let me know how you found it. I'd love some of my own! :) :)
Re: Lacy's official two year pics...
wow...seeing those three in a row is amazing. I love before and after pictures, sometimes you find the most amazing horses in the rough. Granted, sometimes the diamond in the rough is actually just cut glass, lol.
Mist's before and after still makes me double take, I wish I had kept up with the dates on them like you have. Lacy's is especially cool to see because she was so young, it was like a double gamble, ya know? She's turned out so lovely for you. How's her training been going?
Re: Lacy's official two year pics...
Honestly, I felt sorry for her. I couldn't stomach what would happen too her if she stayed where she was or went to auction. I honestly truly believed she would never amount to anything. We figured she would always be very short and probably weakly built. She turned out so bad on the left front we didn't think she could handle even trail riding (she now turns slightly *in* on that foot :laugh1 ). Her hip was so short and her hocks looked so sickle. Her head was big and unattractive. About the only things she had going for her was I liked long manes at the time, her blue eye, and a certain look about her head. As we were leaving after having met her the first time she looked out over the round pen rail and there was something about her head. She just looked... I don't even know how to explain it. I just knew there was something in her we couldn't see yet. Her wildness intimidated me (for you newbies or those that have forgotten, she couldn't be caught in a 30' round pen dragging a 10' lead rope), but at the same time it was a challenge. 10 minutes in the round pen where the lady couldn't catch her and she was letting me rub her face and neck. I just couldn't leave her there. The thought of her going to auction and possibly slaughter when I could have stopped it, just because she wasn't pretty enough just made me sick. I literally felt like throwing up that whole weekend. When I finally found a boarding facility willing to take a horse with no health papers I called her then owner to ask her to deliver her whenever she was ready. Two days, no return call. I cried for two straight days. I knew she was going to auction Monday if she wasn't sold and yet I went to work without hearing from her. My husband drove me in and I asked him to call one more time before I got out of the truck, and she finally answered. She said she'd drop her off at 4pm and I begged off work early so I could be there. She actually looked quite a bit better than I had remembered, but she was even wilder. Very, very hard to handle, especially for such a little thing. I hadn't told my mom as I didn't want to say we were getting a horse and then have it fall through. My way of telling her was to send her a photo I took with my phone, a photo I still have despite having changed phones several times since thankfully:

Her response was "Is it ok?" No, "it" really wasn't at that time. She was safe and sound in her new home though. One that wouldn't let her end up that way again. We didn't know then that she had found her forever home, but there's no denying it now.
Her training is progressing very well when the weather allows. She's definitely the smartest horse hubby or I have ever dealt with. Her attitude and responsiveness are just amazing. It's really a small shame she ended up with us as we will never be able to live up to her potential. I wouldn't trade her for the world though.
By the way, this was the look I saw in her that day over that round pen rail that stopped me in my tracks:

I think that's why I've always loved that picture so much.
Re: Lacy's official two year pics...
Actually I think it was more this look:

(I know it was from the left side and it was a further away look than the one above.)

Wow, she's a pretty thing. She looks great, and I love that you update her photo! :)
