Seal - No 2 thread, What's the verdict????

Re: Seal - No 2 thread, What's the verdict????
Why do you say bay RF???? My black stallion had lovely gold goggles round his eyes at that age & gold on his flanks. He tested homozygous black, NO agouti & is now a blue black & never fades in the slightest. Just goes to show that black foals can indeed have red or gold on them, that's why I am not making a judgement just yet.
But yes, until we know better, seal is bay. Just that it many cases it is very distinctive visually from a normal bay.
Re: Seal - No 2 thread, What's the verdict????
Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean when you say Seal Bay?? From what I have seen on the pictures you have put up are basically bay horses but tend to look more black and seem to have brown on the muzzle and or around the eyes??
Am I correct in this?
Sorry for sounding dumb but I am still learning and had never heard of seal bay.
Re: Seal - No 2 thread, What's the verdict????
Ok I get you. I have seen a few TB's like that and I also have a mini mare now the grand age of 18 yrs young that is basically black with a brown muzzle and around they eyes.
I have never tested her but she has always been with a chestnut stallion and I have had 4 foals from her and they were all bay and I have seen photos of 2 previous foals (before I had her) and they two were bay so I am guessing that she is Homozygous for black and carries at least 1 copy of bay. She is (from what I can find out) part bred fallabella and shetland.
Here is a pic of her and in case you think she has blue eyes its just the flash as the pic was taken in the evening lol.

Re: Seal - No 2 thread, What's the verdict????
Here in the land of Oz, it is very often called black/brown & many horses are registered this way.
Rabbit, yes I asked your opinion, but what I meant is how can you tell if the reddish tints are just due to foal coat &
might disappear or are they due to the effect of agouti ??? I don't think you can at this stage, the red nose on the upper foal photo is foal coat, it is all falling out
& is so far, black underneath.
Of course a test would tell me if they carry agouti, thought at this stage I am not going to bother as I really don't care one way
or the other, it is not going to make any difference to my breeding program, it would just be for my own interest.

I vote seal on both.
