"red roan"
Forums
Saw this horse on local Craigslist, listed as being red roan, but she really does not look it at all, but I did notice these odd white rings on her back, and she has them in two different photos that look like they were taken at different times.

Looks like something fungal
Looks like something fungal to me. The white patched areas look like it was caused by rain rot. What looks like roaning on her neck is making me wonder.
The images just aren't high quality enough for me to say either way. If she was classic roan, those white scars would likely have been her base color instead of white. :/
Agreed.
Agreed.
For comparison, here is an image of a classic roan with scarring from rain rot to show why the horse in question wouldn't have white scars if they were classic roan.
I wouldn't completely rule
I wouldn't completely rule out roan. Roan can be very minimal, she does have a what looks like a roan patch on her neck, and I bet her dam was roan given both sire and dam are roan and part of her name is "strawberry". The circles are strange. I'm actually wondering if they might be salt rings given the fact that they obviously didn't clean her up for the picture at least the top one and they were taken in summer.
I don't see any other characteristics for LP so while it's possible It's so rare in QH it's doubtful it's the cause. It's also possible it's a fungal infection.
