I know the stripe isn't from
I know the stripe isn't from dun, but it did surprise me when it showed up as she shed her foal coat. She has that same shoulder shading that duns show, too. I'm guessing that the countershading is just hitting the same places that dun would..? She has some faint leg barring, too.
I understand she isn't leopard (in the color sense) but Lp. I just don't know what to expect as the pattern develops. Will the countershading continue to expand? Will the dark spots continue to develop while the roaning also continues?
Inquiring minds....
Yea, countershading mimics
Yea, countershading mimics dun and it could stay with her or lessen as she gets older or just change seasonally. The pattern we can't really know what will happen, we don't know how much or how quickly she will varnish out, but the dark spots should continue to show up as the area around them becomes roaned out.
I know if you look through the our appaloosa gallery there are a couple that have progression pictures from foal to adult and some really varnish out and others don't. I know the varnish miniature we have took around 5 years to even get a white hair on him, and now at 11 he is decently varnished.
Her pattern will just
Her pattern will just continue to grow with age more than likely, as that is what Lp does often times and she will probably develop more overall body roaning. The dorsal is not from dun, just countershading. I think she would be considered a small blanket, but she is not leopard.
