I would have said brown going
I would have said brown going grey, but if the dam is chestnut and the sire is black then grey is not possible. You must have one grey parent to get a grey foal.

I am not sure that the stud was not grey. The other mare, the one that had the sorrel this time is the same color as my mare and her 2nd foal by the same stud was a black and she was graying out quite quickly by the time she turned two.
