The foal is exactly the same
The foal is exactly the same color as my blue roan was at birth. He Had a few white hairs in his flank. I'm going to guess blue roan with or without cream.
Here is another picture of
Here is another picture of the mare in her summer coat. She is closest to the camera.

Again, she has the star.

The filly on the left is tested grulla. No agouti, no cream and no brown.
What is the difference
What is the difference between grulla and her being brown based (appearance wise)? The lady we purchased her from tests everything and she was sold as a grulla. Curious now. I was thinking the filly's coat just looked that way since her skin is very pinky.
Will be interesting to see! Waiting for the owner to test her *anxious to know about cream and roan*!
While her pink skin is
While her pink skin is darkening, I'm starting to really think brown now. Still curious to know her roan and cream status.

Grulla tests as black. And a brown dun tests as "bay" anywhere except PetDNA. S
o if the previous owner tests for everything and she was sold to you as grulla I would assume she tests E? aa.
Yea, she said she was Ee aa
Yea, she said she was Ee aa Dd. Could be from dad?
IMO that foal is black. I
IMO that foal is black. I wouldn't even consider her being brown.
Oh, good to know... lol
Oh, good to know... lol Wasn't sure if the color around her muzzle and eyes was pink from birth or what... So you think blue roan?
Yep... Well, you won't know
Yep...
Well, you won't know for sure about the roan until she sheds but I think the chances are good she's roan.
I think the depth of colour
I think the depth of colour indicates there is something going on apart form just Black, so whether she is Brown (as I still think possible) or just Black, I am pretty sure she will Roan. Is that a dorsal or just a trick of the light? She is SO shiny!!
Think just a trick of the
Think just a trick of the light or maybe very faint counter shading.
Got our test results back.
Got our test results back.
The mom is a grulla roan!
And baby is a.... smokey blue roan! :D
Will attach test results. :) We are beyond thrilled and will be retaining her for future breeding to our new dunalino stud colt. :)
Is she homozygous roan?
Is she homozygous roan?
Nope. Single roan. Probably
Nope. Single roan. Probably from papa. lol

:love I am thrilled you got the result you wanted...she is adorable (she'd look real nice in MY barn...hehehe...so if she disappears no need to come look here)... ymwhisle
So she must be Ee aa Rnrn
So she must be Ee aa Rnrn then with the e coming from dad?
Yep.
Yep. :)
Not necessarily, since the
Not necessarily, since the mom is a grulla + roan she could easily have gotten E and roan from the dam and e and no roan from the sire.
I read that as the small e
I read that as the small e coming from dad. Not sure if she was saying who the roan came from. I suspected roan coming from the dad since I read about the roan link to extension but I still can't grasp that so well... lol
Sorry, your right, I misread
Sorry, your right, I misread what was asked.
Nice foal, depth of colour
Nice foal, depth of colour would indicate something else was going on!
Mare looks to be Brown based- do you know she is Roan, as my Buckskin (black based) did all that funky "frosting" thing and had no Roan. So foal may get Roan from the sire, he is very minimal, foal may go the same way.
In spite of the depth of colour on the foal I see Brown, not Black base.....
