Bay or Silver Bay??

My first foal of 2012 arrived Friday night and it is a miracle baby in that its out of my Snr mare Rosie who turned 21 this yr. Long story short Rosie was in foal to an American Stallion but its a case of the chicken or the egg she either got sick and miscarried or miscarried and got sick but then she developed Lamanitis as a secondry. It has been 6yrs since she had a foal and she has been with a stallion all the time plus has been washed out a few times and had bloods done and the vet (apart from sending her to Troytown for more tests) couldnt see a reason why she couldnt go in foal. Last yr her seasons were all over the shop so I put it down to her now being barren and going through some sort of mini menopause and through advice from my vet and yes my farrier they said no harm would come of leaving herself and Sunny together. Well imagine my surprise when I felt a foal kicking up a storm last November. I had no cover dates as I wasnt counting (remember she was going through her mini menopause)but I figured going by the strong kicks I was getting she had to be at least 180 days and I did the math from there and that put her mid to end of April. I maintained Rosie on Baileys Low Cal Balancer and Chaff, NAF Laminaze and Snr Supplement and Yucca for her arthritis. She flew threw the pregnancy like a 2yr old and was the healthiest I have ever seen her. She hasnt had a drug in over 12mths which is a miracle in itself too. Anyway Rosie delivered her FILLY foal on Friday night at 11.20pm Oh and this filly came out like she was a week old which I think is down to all the extra supplements Rosie was getting. So introducing Atiya (Arabic for Gift or Present)Out of Rosie by Sunny (Birchwood UK Arabian Sunset) [IMG]http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t35/Minimad1/AtiyaandRosieedit.jpg[/…] I will get better pics when the damm weather warms up and I can take off her pj's

Thanks I think Bay too but the silvery hue off her mane threw me.

Yes RF I plan to keep her - its been a long 6 yrs of waiting LOL.

I measured her this morning at 5 days old and she is a whopping 22 1/2" and has a cannon of 8 1/2"
Rosie is 33 3/4" and Sunny is 32 1/2". She definitely has been my biggest baby to date, she is very sweet though.

I got to take the rugs off today as there is no breeze and its warm so might get to get some updated pics

Ok I cant help myself (I did have to wait 6 yrs LOL)

Here is Atiya modelling her dog rug (as there was a threat of rain) and she is now 7 days old

She's rather full of herself, isn't she?? I know how you feel though, I have only just started letting mine out, and they are still in at night. Mares are going POTTY!

I was thinking the exact same thing :rofl She is a beauty. :love

LOL she is extremely full of herself but then she IS Rosie's daughter. Rosie is the matriarch and head honcho round here. And while a very what I would call quiet leader nobody dares cross her. One look is all it takes to have them shaking in their hooves. So I am guessing Atiya is going to take on some of that personality.

My hopes for this cross (for the last 3yrs) was a foal with Rosie's personality, large eye amongst her other qualities but to get Sunnys rather large movement and willingness to work. And it looks like I might have gotten most of what I wanted. I did ask for a Silver Bay Filly with 4 white socks and a blaze but I'm not complaining. She does have one striped hoof so I am hoping for at least 1 white sock. She also has some white hairs in the whorl on her face and lighter hairs that almost look like a blaze which is really weird so there is something going on but will have to wait and see what she sheds into. Her hair looks darker underneath so maybe a dark bay like her mother?

Get her tested for silver. A friend had a bay silver Morgan colt foaled this spring. His mane was a very dark gray, looked black in pictures and his tail a mixed gray. Everyone was unsure if he was silver or not. Sure enough, he tested to be silver. So, some of them can be very dark. His mane is now lightening. You can see him here:

He's the 2nd foal right there on the home page :-)

She is gorgeous, congratulations.
She looks bay, but is a bit of an unusual shade, so I would get her tested.

This was my foal who tested silver & quite a few people on here thought he was bay.

Thanks for all the compliments on Atiya.

When you see her in the flesh she is like a golden caramel colour with a reddish tint. Her mane and tail are still that grey and black mix.

So definitely I will be testing her

Here are a few taken May 21st

There are breeds that have Silvers with dark manes and tails but Minis...well, we are having this discussion on LB at the moment and basically, Minis don't. Mini silvers have blonde manes and tails and if hse is Silver she would be the first. She looks typical Bay, and I can see no reason to assume she is not.

Didnt Buckeroo carry silver and he looked like a normal buckskin.

I think I will test anyway just to be sure since as we know the miniatures never read the rule book when it comes to anything LOL
