Not My Foal...But What Is Your Guess On Color?

The foal (let me know if pics don't work, I'm getting them from facebook, with the owners permission) http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/180759_201002423245563_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/180362_201002383245567_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/182920_201118393233966_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/180022_201118109900661_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/168385_201002039912268_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/181977_201002116578927_1…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There are some pictures I want to say buckskin dun, some I want to say red dun.

Digging around now to find momma and poppa. You can see mom in one of those pictures. Owner says she is buckskin dun.

more of Momma, who is named Badlands Dena:

both parents are duns ACC. my first guess was buckskin dun as well.

Here is poppa. He is a bay dun. His name is Broadway Commanders

The dam is bay dun only IMO. I'd be STUNNED if there were proof otherwise. I noted that in the first pic with the foal. The foal on the other hand is much lighter and has bluish eyes I think from cream. The first pic though I thought dun only, it was the others that made me think cream. But I don't really see cream in either parent (if it's one I'd bet the sire over the dam).

Well I'd sure like to see a buckskin or palomino from one of them. Well, not that I want to, but I just don't see cream here. I've seen some pretty light bay dun foals and I've seen some blue eyes on non creams so *shrug*.

TheRedHayflinger Tue, 02/15/2011 - 15:01

gotcha. I think they plan on color testing Shiney, she is just confusing to them because with most they think "DUN" within seconds of seeing...and with Shiney they just didn't know. This is Dena's first foal, and Ace only sires a few foals a year for them I believe.

critterkeeper Tue, 02/15/2011 - 16:55

I suspect this foal is a very light bay dun...I agree with everyone else, I don't see cream in either parent, even though the foal is light. The closest cream in her dams pedigree is 4 gen. back...a bit too far imho. It could just be foal countershading and she'll darken on her foal shed, and probably even more on her yearling shed.

Sorry it took me a while to get on here. Was a member and couldn't remember my username etc for the life of me.

She's 4 days old at 5:21pm. I actually wanted a sorrel (I know, I know) like Dena's sire.. so whatever she is I'll be happy. I do want to have her color tested when I paper her around 3 months old.

I'll get better pictures of her next week. This recent on was taken by my ranch partner and I'm away from the ranch until next week.

What kind of pics do you need? It will be fun to watch the color changing Wizard of Oz baby, either way. :AR!

I honestly was just expecting a plain old dun like her parents. And I sort of hoped for a sorrel. Ok I REALLY hoped for a sorrel.

She changes so much, it's fun to watch. I have birth to current pics of all of his babies. Not that it would help but for the sake of entertainment :D

That last photo really makes me think dun alone.
Do you mean bay dun?
Either way lol. I didn't mean any particular shade of dun, I just mean dun alone, as in not cream. But yes, bay dun.
