Another photo of the stallion as a youngster
Re: Silver Dun?
Did you guys notice this? This is the grandsire on the sire's side, the photo is in black & white so you can't say for sure but you can notice the dappling, I wonder if this was the Silver carrier.

Re: Silver Dun?
He looks like the sooty palomino that tends to happen in QH's I did a research of his pedigree and he goes back to very common ancesters (meaning if he were silver there should be silvers all over the breed) with lots of cream back there. His foals reflect the cream gene and his color is not typical of silvers in the QH breed.

Re: Silver Dun?
I do believe paint/pinto genes affect tail color wether its splash sabino, rabicano or tobiano it can put white there and a paint/pinto horse with white in its tail makes me think its there from the paint/pinto gene long before I think wow that horse must be a silver.
At the bottom of this article (page 5 and 6) are 2 confirmed silver APHA horses

This was a interesting article, thanks for posting it. I need to start getting the PHJ again. I stopped because I was running our of room to put all the magazines!
Re: Silver Dun?
I would think that since mixed white patterns like rabicano don't normally effect the skin that this might still be a possibility in certain cases.
The silvery hairs are interesting.
I have a yearling filly that this year shed out displaying rabicano in her flanks and the sknuk tail and she was born without a drop of white on her I will be watching her to see how light her tail gets.
Re: Silver Dun?
Well there is a foal that looks frame and it says it's out of a solid red roan mare but it's standing next to it's mother and she is pretty obviously frame/sabino *shrugs* He could be splash/sabino and registered as overo because APHA registers every white color pattern other than tobiano "overo" and even somtimes they register minimal tobis overo ~X( Annie is registered overo and she is splash/sabino/rabicano....no frame. She has a pretty large belly spot aside from her socks and facial markings.
