Re: Splash in Hackney Horses
Oh I agree, but have you seen that much leg white on a splash with no more face white than that?
i've not seen many at all myself...the only one I can recall is a paint that I posted way back on the forum and a bit earlier in this thread--Slightly Zipped--4 high whites and just a bit of white on his chin....
Re: Splash in Hackney Horses
Not that I recall, but I've never gone digging. Why not tho? I've seen splash horses with a ton of head white and no leg white before. One of the things that ALWAYS gets us on color, is there are these 'rules' that patterns and colors are supposed to follow. However there is always a handful of horses that are the exception to the rule.
I find it interesting that, without a test for it, researchers have been putting multiple labels on different white patterns based on how the white falls on the horse (yes?) But would it be so hard to believe that we're not looking at dozens of white patterns, and we are just looking at various expressions of a few patterns and their interactions? I don't know of other lab studied animals which have so many different white patterns present, they just have different levels of expressions. Other colors and patterns vary from horse to horse and breed to breed, and yet they have one name. They didn't always have one name, but they do now. So why not these white patterns? I mean you said it yourself that there are some lines of horses where the white doesn't seem to reach higher then a certain point. There's obviously an unknown control there.
Re: Splash in Hackney Horses
isn't there a TWH stallion that has high leg whites, no face white....but I think he is tobiano....

http://www.aimhighstables.com/wendel.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; something about him says tobiano to me..but I also want to say splash (the face marking veering off to one side I think). No clue what breed this one is though...but I was looking for splash whites with little face white and seen him (and i'm having a heck of a time finding any..lol)
Re: Splash in Hackney Horses
oh, just saw this thread, this is really weird  Those belly spots and leg white look absolutely typical of splash but every time I've seen that much body white it's accompanied by a bald head, or at least a huge blaze. :? Do any of these have blue eyes? I'll have to take more time later to go though all this in depth, facinating...

Re: Splash in Hackney Horses
Reminds of splash + sabino, with sabino AND splash forgetting the face was there....(altho there seems to be some sort of small white up on the forehead???)
