Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?

Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
grey was my first impression too....can't find much about him or anything..just thought he looked super neat...and i haven't seen many greys that are that slow to go grey! I think the slowest I've ever known of in person turned white-grey by the time he was 12...lol
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
Comico? There is a Comico VI that used to be at Tintagel, but he was sold recently. Same sire and dam as the horse in the link, so maybe they're related? Both appear to be bay with rabicano/greying/whatever it is.
He has a daughter out of a flaxen chestnut mare that LOOKS flaxen chestnut, but she tested brown (Ee Ata) and she has some dark/black in her tail at least. Still light legs, but they might be getting darker brown? He also has a grey son out of a grey mare (looks black based?) He has another son out of the SAME grey mare that is a really cool color, tested EEAta, but doesn't have black so much as dark dark brown. There's also a bay filly out of a chestnut mare, and a bay filly out of a bay mare.
He does have a weird roaning thing going on, especially on his forehead. Maybe they have the same version? I don't see any greying on any of his foals so far, even the supposed grey one, but I haven't looked that hard.
Edit: While I'm at it, here's another full brother: Comico III, born 1994 and normal grey http://yeguadaherrera.com/horse_ranch/c…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The dad horse, Devoto II stands at http://www.caballocartujano.es" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I think.
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
If he is 15, then it is a far from typical greying out, even for a Spanish horse.
Is it possible that the Rabicano is inhibiting the greying process?
You just know how much I love the term "rare" but, if Rabicano is that rare in Andalusians nowadays, it might be possible that the inhibition has not previously been noticed??
The other possibility is that he is Sabino/Rabicano on Black, no Grey.
Is it just me or are they suggesting that the fact that he is heterozygous Chestnut has something to do with Rabicano??
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
Another strange "Spanish/Sabino/Rabicano" I would love to see the rest of this one.

Who can ask Barbara for more of this particular horse?

Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
There are some large pictures of Comico VI on this forum: http://forumlesecuriesdescoteaux.aceboa…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; <-- first post. Not much grey for being 14...
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
I think I have an explanation. On that French site, they refer to seeing him in July 2008 and they comment that he was lighter then than on the website (and the photos reflect this--he looks much lighter and more normal, IMO). It's possible that the website pictures are simply old and that he was much younger when those were taken.
In that same discussion, one poster mentions having video of him and wanting to post it on youtube (I don't think they got around to it, or it has since been deleted), they list a different website for him [url]http://tintagelandalusians.com/stallion…], and they talk about wanting to see his progeny but him only having been bred in spring of 2008.
He's a weird one for sure... but I think he's just gray now.
Does anyone remember that mare a while back who was bay and had a weird roaning pattern that was kinda similar? (yeah, sorry for the great description)

Here I was able to isolate them:

Yeh I agree, those certainly look grey to me. Especially considering how he's changed colour too.
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
Don't forget that we have two different horses right now. Comico VI and Comico IV - two full brothers. I wonder why they have a normal grey brother, but those two guys are soooooo slow. I think I'm going to cross my fingers for a new grey mutation or modifier. I'd like to see another horse that was greying this way and this slow.

hahaha
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
Well in that case he's a bay varnish roan. Case closed!
Actually, I wonder if maybe it's a rarely seen variation of grey or a version that's usually covered up by grey. I mean, two full brothers have the same deal going on. I'm trying to find other horses that were still at the early stages of greying in their mid-teens, but I'm having trouble. :(
Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
Each Comico. One was imported to the US and now lives in Florida and the other is in Hampshire. Comico IV is the one in Hampshire and was born in 1995. Comico VI was born in 1996.
http://www.gazaro.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Comico IV is here
http://tintagelandalusians.com/stallion…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Comico VI WAS here, but he was sold
They're both Devoto II x Humorista II, and at first I thought they were the same horse, but #4 has a white snip while #6 doesn't. Devoto II is definitely grey, but I can't find any pictures of the mom. Both Comicos have a full brother named Comico III, who was born in 1994. #3 is a full brother, but he's very, very, greyed.

Confusing? Yes. I wish they would have picked more different names. It's even worse because not all Comico [insert Roman numeral here] are related to them.
On another note:

Re: Is It All Rabicano, or is he going Grey?
That's definitely gray.
