I do Sara, but I actually would have expected to see LOADS more than that on one this minimal.
Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Who's horse is Tru one ina million? They do look alot alike. He is actually eligable for regular status now Paint heorse just changed the rule on Jan 1 that the socks only have to be 2" above the hock and his is about 6" above the hock so I just have to send his papers in with photos and it about a $60 fee for a status change to regular papers.

Funny they have that same black spot... What does that mean? Why would you expect more - and are you talking about the spot?
Re: What color is I CD SPOT
I don't have anything to do with paint registries, but for some reason I just thought that if they tested as a tobiano they would accept them even if very minimal. Goes to show I thought wrong!!
Lol.....I did ask them about that and they said they just went by color, but they change the rules pretty often so you never know maybe next year, seems to me if the markings were border line and you could prove by genetic testing that a horse had a particular coat pattern, that that would be enough to let them pass for regular papers.

Ermines and distals are believed to be a sign of a white suppression gene. Typically on a tobiano this minimal there will be a whole lot more than just one.
Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Ermines and distals are the little spots of color present in the socks and blazes of some horses. We have noticed that the spots are very common in minimally marked horses so they *appear* to go hand-in-hand with some not yet discovered suppression gene. But yeah, it's just a theory. The geneticists only have just so much time to do actual research so we busy ourselves with guessing. At least it's educated guessing... mostly!
Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Ermines are spots of color on the coronet and distals are spots of color above the coronet.
This is an extreme version of what I was talking about:

Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Speaking of spots in the face. This mare has at least frame and sabino and I personally believe splash. She's much more minimal than would be typical of this combination. Check all the spots:

Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Neat! it is very ineresting and fun to guess. He does have those spots on more than one sock and a little spot too in his blaze I think, but it seems to me that pretty much all the tobiano's I have seen have those, are they the same thing as the color that oftened surrounds their......whatever you call that little toe thing that supposedly grew up there leg.... oh I remember now "chestnut", you can see it on my Tovero mare standing next to him.
Now that I think of it you do see them more on the more minimal Tobianos.... and homozygous Tobianos or is that somthing different?

They used to call them pawprints as I recall on the HZ Tobis.... Are they really different shaped?
Re: What color is I CD SPOT
Yes that's right, pawprints were a telltale sign of HZ tobianos, here is a picture of his Dam "Sheeza Delta Queen" she has a pawprint on her left hind on the upper part of her sock, she also has the ermines and she is a HZ tob. I don't know if they are related or not.

Any chance of more photos of her and perhaps a close-up of her prints?
Re: Waht color is I CD SPOT
Yes, I see sabino. Do you have a photo that shows the other side of his face?
