Hey Maigray...

Re: Hey Maigray...
Was it you who asked me on the back-up board? Someone did, and I forgot to answer them. The horse - sadly - is not mine. He was posted years and years ago on another board. I came across the picture again a short while ago, and snapped it up to make an icon. The photographer is Jackie Robbins. I've been meaning to resize it actually. I wanted to put the whole horse in, but even at icon size, it exceeded size limits here. I have no idea who he is, only that he was for sale at one point at a well known Arabian farm for a very hefty price.
Here he is, in all his glory
Re: Hey Maigray...
Here is the website he's on: http://www.ponycity.com/photographers/r…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm about to email the photographer. I HAVE TO KNOW. lol
Re: Hey Maigray...
Got a reply!
[b]Robin,
That is Cowboy. He is a Half-Arabian/Paint gelding with two beautiful blue eyes that resides with his owner outside of Tampa, FL. I used to own Cowboy and he was the "unofficial mascot" for PonyCity for quite a while. You can see a really goofy picture of him on our "404 page not found" page if you mistype a PonyCity link or get to it through Google... http://www.ponycity.com/cowboy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
He is a very special horse and he has the epitome of forever homes with a woman who loves him dearly.
Best Regards,
Jackie Robbins

Re: Hey Maigray...
How cool that you found info on him, Swinghorse. 8-)
Not by any chance a Cowboy Ranger horse? His build and pattern already had me thinking it and now you throw that name out there. I've found the line being crossed to Arabs before.
Cowboy Ranger? Help me out Morgan! I wondered why the name sounded familiar until I realised that he is my mares grandsire. But I obviously know nothing about him.
Re: Hey Maigray...
You have a Cowboy Ranger mare?? That's MY mare's grandsire. It's not a very common line. I've never yet found a picture of him but more often than not horses closely related to him are very loud tobiano/splash like that. He was Supreme Champion #17 in 1973 and his sire Rapid Ranger (a cropout QH) was Supreme Champion #15.
APHA Supreme Champion Award - awarded to the horse named Grand Champion in at least five APHA-approved A shows under five or more judges. This horse has won at least 80 points in recognized halter and performance classes in APHA-approved A class shows or in races recognized by the APHA. At least 30 of those points have been won in halter classes, and at least 50 in performance events. No more than 10 points may be counted in one performance event. The horse must have earned at least one ROM in Categories II-IV, have earned at least four racing points and have run at least one race with an official speed index of no less than 80
It's the ultimate versatility award for Paints. V's sire, Mr.Tramp, has everything short of racing or he would be one. There have only been 40, it's considered almost impossible to do with the modern show specialization but Macho Town Chica won it in 2002.
this is my mare's sire:

I got the photo from the stallion owner and I was suprised my how much V looks like him.
Re: Hey Maigray...

no visible splash socks....
Usually horses with that splash/tobi pattern don't have ermines.
Just wanted to bring this back up... what about horses with splash and no tobi?
Cant think of one off the top of my head that has them like that. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I just found it unusual.
Re: Hey Maigray...
So would you think Lacy is not splash then?
Re: Hey Maigray...
Yes, she is frame positive. All three white feet are FULL of ermines and distals, some very large. I figured since she was frame, to have three high whites and a bottom heavy blaze (let alone a splash like moustache and a partial blue eye) that she likely was splash.

Oops. I lied. It's her sires grandsire, and the clupit for her ranger-name. I cannot claim too much color on my girl though. She decided to disguise herself as a solid, with sabino and splash. Negative frame. No visible tobi.
I am thrilled though, to have found 'family'. I never do. Your V is my P's sires sister/aunt then? Meet the niece. :laugh1

Re: Hey Maigray...
How fun! well, Classy is a granddaughter, so V is g-grand daughter, I guess that would make your mare and V 2nd cousins or something like that. Looks like and bred like cow pony! I bet she's a smarty. :D

I don't see it as bottom heavy, not in the way splash would be. It's quite wide over the cheek bones, I would expect splash to have draped it around the face more from that point. And the moustache is not really been studied but typically the one on a splash is oval on the lips on one side, not in front of the nose and not splotchy like that. The socks are more sabino than splash to me as well. From the know minimal splashes I've seen I expect the hind socks to be noticably higher than the front sock. Sorry, but I've only ever seen her as frame sabino. :?

She is nothing short of brilliant. I am working two jobs to put her through college, though I expect her to win a scholarship.
(all kidding aside. Very smart. And I have no idea how you distill that out of a pedigree!!!) 8-)
Re: Hey Maigray...
ermines don't have to mean anything at all, do they. Nike has ermines, and he has nothing special as far as patterns go.

Horse? What horse? :? What a wonderful picture of you Krickette! 8-)
I agree that I have seen plenty of horses with (lots of) ermines that did not display anything unusual in the pattern department.

thanks! :D That's one of my senior portraits! It was an accident, actually. We were done, and had turned Nike loose to graze, and the photographer was packing up his camera and looked up and saw us and whipped it back out for a few more photos! He used that picture on his brochures, and has a big copy in his studio.
Re: Hey Maigray...
ermines galore, blk hooves tobiano, and spots on her fetlock chestnut even.
Re: Hey Maigray...
I agree and had wondered the same thing...
