Re: RIP Sweet Ditto
I am so so sorry , she was stunning , when I lost a foal last year a
dear friend sent this poem to me , it made me cry even more but it still gave me comfort
hugs to you
I'll lend you for a little while
My grandest foal, He said.
For you to love while he's alive
And morn for when he's dead.
It may be one or twenty years,
Or days or months , you see.
But, will you, till I take him back,
Take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have treasured memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But, there are lessons taught on earth
I want this foal to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
With trust, I have selected you.
Now will you give him your total love?
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come
To take him back again?
I know you'll give him tenderness
And love will bloom each day.
And for the happiness you've known!
Forever grateful stay.
But should I come and call for him
Much sooner than you'd planned
You'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And someday you'll understand.
For though I'll call him home to Me
This promise to you I make,
For all the love and care you gave
He'll wait for you, inside Heaven's Gate.
Re: RIP Sweet Ditto
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate the support.
I'm mad, sad, and disgusted at the same time. It's a waste. Plain and simple. To have to utter the words "put her down" when talking of a 3 month old foal is just ludicrous. What is one supposed to learn from something like this???
I dunno.
At any rate, thanks for letting me vent and I do appreciate the kind words from my cyber friends!
Re: RIP Sweet Ditto
It is always the best, I find, never the plain colt in the corner, always the gorgeous filly.
It makes me never want to care about a foal again, and it makes me nervous when I do, as well.
Andrea I am so sorry this had to happen.
It is not a lesson to be learned, it is part of the pain of breeding, to be taken on board and to be moved on from.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, after all.
Re: RIP Sweet Ditto
She will be a beautiful Pegasus (horse angel) to carry you when you go home. Don't give up, she was worth it, now you know what your mare can make. And if you choose to give your little girl siblings, who will, like everyone, eventually join her, you will have a part of her again.

Oh that's so sad, she was gorgeous. I was just reading a few of you lost foals. Gosh and it's always the one that captures your heart. Gosh I do wonder why we breed sometimes, it's so hard to take when things like this happen. Hope this year is a good year for everyone with healthy happy foals.

What a darling and beautiful girl. It is inadequate, and I don't know what to say, other than: I'm so sorry. :sad
