What patterns?

Re: What patters?
Actually the tail head being colored is a vote against tobi IMO. Frame in it's louder expressions nearly always causes shields IME. The amount of color left on this mare's back and legs makes me feel the chance of tobi is virtually nill.
You don't know what her parents were right?
Re: What patters?
There is definitely Sabino, hence the chest shields, she is also Medicine Hat, which can be caused by Splash and/or Sabino, we aren't sure as there is no test, although I would guess either can do that!!
Frame, yes, hence the line of colour down her back, Max expression Sabino/Splash being inhibited on the back line by Frame...luckily she is not Sabino roan, as so many of the Minis with this combination are, so you do not lose that sharply delineated line, and Tobi??
I am not sure, I think not as Tobiano probably would have inhibited the face a bit more....although it would have had a lot to contend with.
I would definitely test for Frame, simply because it could be very important to her at some time in her life to know her status...if you were also testing for Tobiano I would do the Very Snap and get everything!!!
Re: What patters?
My theory is with how loud she is showing her patterns that if she did have Tobiano there would be no solid patch on her back. Just my opinion. To me in the horses I have seen with Tobiano and other patterns the Tobiano stands out easily. I am sure there are cases where Tobi may not stand out but other then a very minimal Tobi I have yet to see one.

Re: What patters?
I was looking at the website and under the Chowktaw horses is this one (3rd one down: unnamed #104) that is listed as a sorrel tobiano - for some reason, this horse does NOT look tobiano to me. :-\
I know my Patches has 100+% more white on her topline than this fellow (white on neck only) and she isn't tobi (can't be). Those legs don't say tobi to me either (even though there are 4 low whites) they look more sabino to me - and we can't leave out the frame (look at that neck). Of course, that isn't to say I can't be wrong (wouldn't be the 1st time - :laugh1 )
Edit to add: I'm sorry forgot link: http://rickmanspanishmustangs.com/choct…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Oh and I found this little lady - I'd love to have her :love , but I'd have to totally change my herd (otherwise they wouldn't sell her to me :sad )... http://rickmanspanishmustangs.com/blend…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .
Re: What patters?
No, he looks Tobiano + Splash or Sabino to me.
Could someone please explain to me why anyone, especially in this financial climate, would want to pay that sort of money for a scruffy, unhandled, ungelded, extremely poorly conformed colt??
Just a thought!!
And yet, they have 300 animals to find homes for.
And now we know why!

If I am looking at the right horse he is Definitely Tobiano. Among other things too. :)

That was what I was thinking! I was looking at babies and saw a really cute (though def. put together like a mustang >.<) colt that I just fell in love with, then I looked and it said "to breeding home only" and I was like  why?!
Re: What patters?
How can you tell that colt has bad conformation, those are pictures of him running and not even straight shots. Someone that breeds that certain breed might want to pay that much for one- I did a little reading and they are pretty rare horses, less than 200 left.So they only want them to go to breeding homes,is it wrong to try to conserve a breed? and whats wrong with it being scruffy and unhandled? Its a mustang and its only 2,it is not like it is this 5 year old mature stallion and even if it was if someone was a good trainer they could tame it and train it and then it wouldn't even matter if it was unhandled- and at least with it being unhandled it would not have any bad habits or vices.
I hate how since its not some spiffy show horse that was handled since it was a foal and was saddle trained at 2 years and trained to clip and lead and pick up its feet that its apparently worth nothing and is completely useless and only considered good for dog food.
Not trying to offend anyone, just something I've wanted to say for a while and I'm in a bad enough mood to say it now.
Re: What patters?
Oh, come on!!
We get pictures of people horses on here all the time that are in a field and scruffy, it's easy enough to see whether they are well conformed or not, if they are running, standing or jumping around!!
If I were paying the sort of money they are asking I would want a pretty good picture of the animal to start with, I would expect it to be fully halter trained and I would expect not to have to watch it through binoculars and have all sorts of embargo's put on it.
Any time someone advertises something as "rare" I see SCAM in flashing letters.
If there are only 200 of those scruffy creatures left I would personally say "Good"!! I am not suggesting anyone go out and shoot them , understand, or mistreat them, merely saying that if yet another mongrel breed is allowed to quietly die out, so what??
We have it here as well, believe me...RARE Dartmoor Hill Ponies...being hounded by the Dartmoor Society, Yada Yada Yada...they are mongrel ponies that just happen to have bred on Dartmoor, they are not Dartmoor Ponies.
But, hey, they are RARE ....so let's charge a HUGE price (having bought the things for £50.00 a load) and make ourselves loads of money.
Sorry, we are both in a bad mood, CM, but this sort of thing really annoys me!!
And if you had made your money in horses for as long as I have you would be able to judge an animals conformation form a running picture....ooh that sounds snotty, sorry, not meant to be but honestly, those colts are pretty rough..have they ever even been wormed do you think???
Re: What patters?
I think the main reason they are considered rare is because they were allegedly bred by the choctaw native americans. I doubt they have been wormed. Just really bothers me that it seems like everyone that doesn't show is looked down on and their horses are not good nor worth anything at all.
Re: What patters?
CM, showing horses with your peers keeps the barn goggles clear...sometimes it will bring someone back to reality and they might improve their stock once they realize that they dont fit the breed standard very well aginst others, they ones that dont show or have records dont bring much in the market high end being 3000$ for non-competitive animals and low end 250$...they are the animals that bring the market down.
Re: What patters?
I am will ing to bet there is a open venue in your area that is ALWAYS looking for a energetic young willling to help out person , if you were in our area we have 2 clubs that beg for new member and there is always a friendly person or 2 that is willing to help out and go make friends , mingle, offer to help them to learn and heck some even might need an extra rider. I started going to 2 open shows here and now one put me on the show program commitee  as I was always being catty and correcting the shows all day long , the jump courses and the trail courses lol I am a squeeky wheel...we have a meeting tonight ..at a restraunt ...the other club i go to is SUPER small and struggling, Im trying to help them get on the right track but Im afraid that one might fall apart..but anyhow that is a good place to start is a open venue, then if something devlops and you get in the right place then a registry show venue would be the next stop...its easy to learn with an eager student, even if you do a trade of some sort like labor ...KY next to ocala is horse country, you got to have it better then I do here in NC. Its slim pickens here.
Re: What patters?
I can promise you there are more open shows there then there are here, I can find one a weekend here and I bet there a a few every weekend there that do all sorts of stuff, its just takes a little motivation..another good place to find the shows is on teh bulltenboard at the feed ro tack stores. The open shows are the ones for a new to showing person to experience first.
Re: What patters?
I will bet my last dollar there is no tobiano.
