Re: Yes, she came to my house too!
I would never use flea collars on any cat and I certainly wouldn't use a Hartz product. I really do not think the meds you can buy at the grocery store (flea collars, spot-ons, de-wormers, powders) are appropriatly safe, many cats suffer/die every year due to poisoning from those types of products. Yes, many cats do just fine with those products, but I don't want to take that type risk. I much prefer to use Advantage or Revolution, which can be purchased from a vet or sometimes with an Rx and ordered cheaper through 1800PetMeds.
When getting in new foster kittens who were infested with fleas, I would dampen a washcloth and spray the heck out of the cloth with a liquid/spray flea-killer and wrap the kitten up in it, with their head sticking out. Oh, they will wriggle/cry something terrible because the fleas are tickling as they run, trying to get away from whats killing them. After the fleas stop moving in their fur, I then washed the kitten, sudsing up well and rinsing thoroughly before coming inside to dry and join the household.
*I didn't know that about the Dawn dish-soap...I'll file that tip away into my bag-of-tricks. Great tip!

ohhhhhhh *drool*
I think we used advantage on all dogs and the cat last year and used some kind of herbal repelant mix that went all over dogs and floor lol. Curiously its already end of June and I havent seen a flea all year and haven't done anything.
Ticks on the other hand...........

:love Very nice pics, very nice horses.
Kitten fleas: tell me about it. :( I have a crop of wild ones, I cannot catch them (yet) to bathe but yes, the dish soap does work. For tamer ones, I split a $15.00 frontline plus for large dogs (up to 132 lbs) suck it up in a syringe and give each cat .5 cc. One dose will treat 8 cats that way. Not before 12 weeks though, but unfortunately I cannot get close enough to them any sooner than that anyway. :o
If anyone is close and wants a kitten? PLEASE let me know. (parents are neighbor cats that I cannot catch, and I am stupid enough to feed, since I cannot see anything starve, though I probalby should let nature take its course)
Re: Yes, she came to my house too!
We had a wild cat problem- more of just a female that had 2 litters a year for like 7 years. I think the most 'responsible' thing to do would be to get a large animal trap, trap them and then get them fixed and let them go again. I know around here the neighboring county's human society has a spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats and it is extremely cheap, so there could be one around your area so then you don't spend 90$ on a wild cat (I think at the clinic it was 30$ to get a cat spayed and 25 for neuter plus 5$ rabies shot).
We've had a few wild cats come since that and the trap never seems to fail.
Anyway, just a thought!

*drool* BEAUTIFUL horses! And use Dawn original dishsoap for the fleas...use a generous amount and lather them up REAL good, and be sure to rinse very very well...if they clean themselves and there's still some soap left in their fur they'll get the runs...it will kill the fleas but it won't repel them so you'll need to bathe them every few days or as often as they get bad again. When you think they're pretty close to 8 weeks, as long as they are energetic and healthy and eating good it probably wouldn't hurt to go ahead and put flea collars on them. For kittens I like the purple and white striped one, not sure what brand it is, Hartz maybe, you can cut them to fit. Good luck with them.
