What patterns?

Just thought I would make Chilli her own thread to get everyone's ideas on what patterns she has. A few of you saw her pictures in the "pleased to meet you" and "what color is my foal" sections and said tobiano and frame, which I agree with, but I am not sure if she is roan or sabino along with it. Hard to see in the pictures, but she has white hairs everywhere in her color except on her ears. Oddly enough on her right ear there is a small white dot up near the tip. Could be a scar but it was like that when I bought her so I don't know. Both eyes are dark brown.
Oh, come on!!
We get pictures of people horses on here all the time that are in a field and scruffy, it's easy enough to see whether they are well conformed or not, if they are running, standing or jumping around!!
If I were paying the sort of money they are asking I would want a pretty good picture of the animal to start with, I would expect it to be fully halter trained and I would expect not to have to watch it through binoculars and have all sorts of embargo's put on it.
Any time someone advertises something as "rare" I see SCAM in flashing letters.
If there are only 200 of those scruffy creatures left I would personally say "Good"!! I am not suggesting anyone go out and shoot them , understand, or mistreat them, merely saying that if yet another mongrel breed is allowed to quietly die out, so what??
We have it here as well, believe me...RARE Dartmoor Hill Ponies...being hounded by the Dartmoor Society, Yada Yada Yada...they are mongrel ponies that just happen to have bred on Dartmoor, they are not Dartmoor Ponies.
But, hey, they are RARE ....so let's charge a HUGE price (having bought the things for £50.00 a load) and make ourselves loads of money.
Sorry, we are both in a bad mood, CM, but this sort of thing really annoys me!!
And if you had made your money in horses for as long as I have you would be able to judge an animals conformation form a running picture....ooh that sounds snotty, sorry, not meant to be but honestly, those colts are pretty rough..have they ever even been wormed do you think???
Ya know, I've kept my mouth shut for long enough. I started this thread so I think I get to say it's time for you to SHUT UP. Everything you say is about YOU, YOU, YOU. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when it comes out the way your's does, I don't like it and I don't want it in my thread (not to mention this isn't the place for it, but you started it so I'm going to finish it). It got off topic and now you've turned it to this? Thanks! And you can turn off your "scam alert" because Mr. Rickman would never do that. If you are sooo annoyed by our Mustangs (among the other wild breeds) then stop talking about them! All you're going to accomplish is pissing people off! Some people (me included) REALLY LOVE the idea of paying what you consider too much for an animal that is wilder than sh!t and have to actually do HARD WORK AND PHYSICAL LABOR and outsmart it and earn it's trust all by ourselves. I had to do it with Chilli! She was halter broke when I got her, that was it. And halter "broke" doesn't even really explain what she was, maybe I should say she would lead, that was about it. I spent at least 2 hours a day 6 days a week for 3 months straight training her. I had help from 1 person, 1 time. After the first 3 weeks I was riding her and on her THIRD RIDE EVER I took her up onto the mountain by myself. We had zero problems. That has nothing to do with the reason for my post but I just felt like bragging on myself about my mongrel Mustang and making you read it. And what's your deal with conformation? They aren't ugly but they aren't perfect (by your standards), no one expects them to be. They are perfect regarding rough mountain riding like I do, seeing as I live on 600 acres of mountain. What about my colt, Whiskey? He was bred out of the same group of horses as shown on that website, and if you've been holding back telling me about how poorly you think he is conformed, well GO AHEAD! I don't care, which will probably just make you mad. These are wild horses, the stallion doesn't stand around and go "OK now here's the gameplan, we are kicking out mare #3 because her comformation isn't making up for my faults and her foal wouldn't be PERFECT." Their bodies have adapted over the many many years to be perfect for their environment. So believe it or not, a horse with less than perfect conformation is still beautiful, smart, STRONG and ABLE (these Mustangs probably moreso than any other breed you see trying to climb a mountain trail). And you say the colts are rough??? Well yeah! We like everything ROUGH in OKLAHOMA!!! Our horses, our cowboys, our trucks, our beer and whiskey, obviously you've never lived in the South, which is a shame. Oh, and probably never been wormed, your point is...? THESE HORSES SURVIVED HUNDREDS OF YEARS WITHOUT BEING WORMED. Or having their feet trimmed. Or their teeth floated. Or having fly spray. Or vaccinations. Or their stumps dipped in iodine the moment they are born. Are you really that ignorant about a wild animal? They made it this far, for this long, so seriously, you have no room to say anything bad about them. Not in my thread anyways. Now, how about we get back on topic.

Heather Mon, 06/22/2009 - 13:12

Rusti, chill... :whip some of us have come to realize that rabbit just cant stand anything american period and that we are extremely inferior and ignorant, just shrug your shoulders and maybe a finger gesture, but keep it come and cool here sweetie..try not to take her to personal... 8-)

Edit also to add that it is common for threads to twist and turn just like a conversation, its the nature of all messageboards, its just soemthing that cant be controled and shoulndt be, some great topics evolve from things like that ;)

I understand what you're saying. What I don't understand is the concept behind it. Why should she get to talk sh!t the way she does and not have somebody stand up and knock her back down where she needs to be, with the rest of us. She's no better than any of us. Ya'll can't be letting her walk all over you. I'm NOT the kind of person to shrug my shoulders and ignore something. I was taught to stand up for the things I love/believe in/think are right, even if it means kicking someone's ass. Yes, around here we like to resort to violence, sometimes it's the only way to get through to somebody. Anyways...I've spoke my peace to her and I'm done with it. Probably won't change anything but she needed to hear it.

Heather Mon, 06/22/2009 - 13:50

right and wrong is very subjective, its just another opinion that she may have or another might have , the bigger person will jsut say " I respectfully disagree, * for these reasons* " "You may not know of what your speaking * due to these reason* " she might have a way of comming and gettin under people skin, but there is always experience that another person might have that may not be yours.. just keep it "grown up" in responses :D ...while I might not agree with stuff I might have to say, she dosent have the experiences that I have and disagree with stuff that she has too and her expereinces... no one is going to agree 100% of the time...there are 100+ members and growing from all sorts of backgrounds and its the nature of a message board, try not to get to ruffled . What one person says on a message board does not matter in the big picture of life nor do they pay your feed bill. Debate all you like, but just keep it clean and veer from personal attacks please :HB :toast

Morgan Mon, 06/22/2009 - 14:56

Easy Rusti, RF has more experience with horses than most of us have with breathing. She's also been on this forum for like forever so we are used to her (I've been here 6 years and she was here lol). I'm willing to excuse her occasional opinionated grumping because that's just the way she talks and I appreciate the other times when she really is worth reading. Would you get angry with a friend's grandmother just because she told you your clothes were ugly? Respond if you must (and we do when we feel strongly enough of our opinion) but don't make a fight of it. It's opinions and opinions cannot be altered by logic. In any online discusion that concerns opinions I usually try to limit myself to one post. I give my view, my reasons, possibly a reason why I don't care for the other opinions and let it stand at that.

Krickette Mon, 06/22/2009 - 15:07

Indeed. I have my own opinions on what should and shouldn't be bred. I've seen some beautiful, sturdy mustangs in my time, but I've also seen a lot of them with some of the strangest conformation ever. A lot of that was from many culls over the years, where they took the best horses out to sell and then the ones left to continue on weren't quite top shelf. It's just sort of luck of the draw with that breed it seems. Heck, I know I have vastly different views on a number of breeds than a lot of people on this board. When I first joined I got caught badmouthing appalousas because 99.999% of my experiances with them were not ones I'd like to repeat, but then NZ chimed in, and my opinions have changed some. I know she has tooons more experiance with the breed, and has seen the good in them. Just like how I am in love with Arabians, and have rarely met one I didn't like, but some of my friends think they are all plum crazy. It's all just opinions, and you take them for what they are worth. Rabbit is well respected here, and while from time to time I dissagree with her, I still at the very least smile and nod.

Rusti Mon, 06/22/2009 - 16:02

Not trying to make a fight out of anything, just standing up for myself! I really could care less if she has more experience with horses than I do...that doesn't make her a better person than me or anyone else. Like I said a few posts up...I've spoke my peace and she can do whatever she wants with it. Believe me, I didn't come here to make enemies; I like this forum alot!

rabbitsfizz Tue, 06/23/2009 - 04:50

Honestly??
Life is far too short to deal with rude little opinionated upstarts on a public forum!!!
I have no problem with Mustangs any more than I have a problem with Native Ponies here.
An inferior conformation is an inferior conformation, whether it be on a Mustang (which is supposed to be a feral horse, BTW and there are SO many of the flipping things they are being held in huge lots at an enormous cost and cannot find homes, so how can they be "rare"????)
or a TB or even an Arab, loads and loads of badly conformed Arabs around.
Difference is no-one is, as a rule, flagging them as "rare" and attempting to get people to pay through the nose for animals they HAVE to breed from (love to see that contract stand up in court, BTW) and can watch through binoculars!!!
Have you actually LOOKED at Craigslist recently??

Nor do I consider Americans "inferior" I just give my opinion of what is shown or said, so if that is inferior, well then so be it!!

It is merely coincidence that a lot of what is shown and discussed on here happens to be American....

Maigray Tue, 06/23/2009 - 11:40

Ok, let's everyone take a minute and a big deep breath...

Why don't you guys take it to PM? Because no one wants this to get out of hand.

I'm going to take a minute to repost the rules, just so we're all clear
We also will not tolerate name calling or fighting on the forum. While we don't expect you to agree with everyone on everything we do expect you to conduct yourself in a civil manner. Any user violating this policy will be given one (1) warning and then banned.
Whatever the argument is about - it's not worth it. Plus, you know, I'd rather remain in my contented stupor of the day and not actually have to do anything...That's the reason I agreed to be a moderator on here, I didn't think it would actually require any work. Help me keep my life lazy and simple.

In all seriousness, guys, I'm begging you - PLEASE don't force us to have to do something.

rabbitsfizz Tue, 06/23/2009 - 12:26

I am more than happy to do so, Mai, and I would actually like to apolagise for hi-jacking this thread, that was rude of me, and I am sorry.
It does not excuse the rudeness of the reply, however.
But, as you said, this is neither the time nor the place.

Maigray Tue, 06/23/2009 - 13:02

Excellent, excellent! I love you all! My indolence remains unchecked!

I am now free to do nothing for the rest of the day.

critterkeeper Tue, 06/23/2009 - 15:51

:toast Miller Time (or Budwieser? Chardennay? Kool-Aid? Evian?) Nothing like a cold drink on a hot day...

Maigray, you are welcome to join me in the glider on the front porch watching the fillies playing in the pasture (kittens playing at our feet)...is that lazy enough?

Maigray Tue, 06/23/2009 - 23:17

Kool-Aid, my love, Kool-Aid - the sugar rush gives me the energy to tap the keys.

Six years, seriously? It's been that long? I remember when Rabbit joined so how old does that make me??? It blows my mind how long I've "known" some of you guys... on the internet.

Morgan Tue, 06/23/2009 - 23:34

 This is the first place I ever came to regularly on the internet. I was 16 :laugh1

Sara Tue, 06/23/2009 - 23:54

I can't even remember who else was around back then besides Maigray, Lewella, and Sarah. I think Amarugia was (Den) but I don't recall who else.

Monsterpony Wed, 06/24/2009 - 00:41

I joined at the tail end of Lewella and Sarah and that was back before vet school so I've been here nearly four years, I think.

NZ Appaloosas Wed, 06/24/2009 - 04:59

I remember her, so I guess that means I've been here for more than 4 years? wow...

So, what did happen to Lewella, anyone know?

Diane

Fledgesflight Wed, 06/24/2009 - 05:46

No...after awhile she'd just pop in every now and then, and then she was gone.

Paintlover Wed, 06/24/2009 - 08:38

I have been hanging around for at least a year but didn't get to join until this forum was started.

lipigirl Wed, 06/24/2009 - 10:31

Yes I remember Lewella......and there were others but I can't think of them now - shame they fell away... :sad ......I still feel like a colour newbie though !!! ....especially when you think you have it all sorted in your mind then someone discovers something else....that's the fun bit don't you agree ?

CheyAut Wed, 06/24/2009 - 10:44

I also remember Lewella. But I've been a quiet poster most of the time, still am (meaning I lurk more than I post)

lipigirl Wed, 06/24/2009 - 10:52

Lurking always sounds so seedy !! :laugh1 .....like you are spying on the forum.....but then we have over 100 members and most of them don't post so please stop lurking and start posting...you know who you are !!!! :HB ...we want to talk to you. :flower

Heather Wed, 06/24/2009 - 17:09

In the early years I just lurked and it had to be around 2001-2ish I was still in the middle of going from my house to the farm and in an APT. ...
