what colour mare

what colour is this mare ? the foal has gone much darker now and I think she will probably go her dams colour when she sheds out this year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dODlGSBLAOw and the foal at the end of the summer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMAdW88VNZQ

I have wondered that myself but she looks like the video in spring and autumn but during winter and mid summer she looks like this....
her papers say red dun and they both have a very faint dorsal but neither parent looks dun

I can think of one thing that stands out when it comes to spring/autumn only nutrients...how about natural growing legumes... clovers and alfalfa come to mind, but I sure there are other cool weather plants that could be contributing to their coat dilution.

this photo is colour of foal a month ago , in this next video although she is wet from the rain you can see the colour change around her eyes , I ask because people seem to think the foal is silver bay , the sire is black so it is possible the silver and the bay could have come from the dam whatever colour the mare turns out to be

The mare is silver bay, I'd say no dun, and the filly looks chestnut, but I'd honestly wait until shes a little older and look again.

Silvers are notorious for a false dorsal, which is why Silver Black Dun can be a hard one to tell. The mare could be Red Dun, I have a red dun mare that mimics Silver Bay, but I know there is no Silver in her so I know she is Red Dun- she has dark legs, dark head, blonde mane and tail.

I think whatever colour the mare is, that the foal is chestnut.

This is a chestnut mare I have, when she first coats off in the spring her knees and lower legs are quite sooty. Many people that see her think she is silver bay. Her legs have lightened off again here, I only took this the other day, but gives an idea anyway
