What color is my horse ? (photo of his foal p. 3)

Hi ! My name's Nathalie and I come from Europe (Switzerland). My horse is PALOMINO but something strange is happening. When he was younger, he had very light mane and tail with fast no black hair in it. Now the things are changing and his tail become more and more dark. You can see the change on this pictures : 2 years old : [img]http://lh6.ggpht.com/_19R7tvELsK0/SJtSzRxlM-I/AAAAAAAAB4U/dp_q_zI1IV0/s…] 4 years old : [img]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_19R7tvELsK0/SJtLXUdHhKI/AAAAAAAABfE/LSR5rHiPrto/I…] Now, 6 years old : [img]http://lh4.ggpht.com/_19R7tvELsK0/S5u_ggE-QBI/AAAAAAAAHpw/nMhukilqQq4/s…] His mane has become more "orange/brown/grey" than the flashy white it was. And look at his tail... It become partially black ! What's happening ? Can he have the "silver" or "sootty" gene ? His mother is Buckskin and father chestnut. As he's a breeding stud, i'd like to know if I've chance to have more color dilution :hammer (I'm waiting his 2 first foal in about 1 month !) Thank you !

No he shouldn't be silver and it wouldn't express on him anyway since he is a red base. What you are seeing is progressive sooty. :D Gorgeous boy!

OK
thank you

do you know if the sooty gene can influence the color of its future foals? (can he transfer the gene or not ?)

And does it mean that it would become darker every year ?

(GREAT, I don't like hell palomino :P)

And, in Winter he's much light than in sommer (LIGHT and not "HELL" sorry lol)

He's always had a bit of darkness to him. I'm not surprised his tail is getting darker.

IME sooty does tend to be progressive and he could continue to get more.

Yes, he could and likely will pass it on to some of his foals in varying degrees.

What a handsome boy - :love He sure knows how to sit on his haunches, can he spin on a dime as well? What are his bloodlines?

Yes more pics please. He is very handsome indeed!
I love his dark sooty colouring.
Actually I think he's handsome when he's gold and when he's dark palomino.

A dime is a small US coin. To say a horse can "spin on a dime" is just saying he can turn quickly in one spot.

And your English is very good!

So how does DW go from expression to non expression, what goes first??
As in, Frame the legs go first, and eyes, then face white, etc, is there a logical devolution??
I doubt I shall ever truly get my head round DW, as my powers of perception just are not up to it these days, but I can at least get the basics....
