What Causes This Leg Marking?

Don't know if you can see it very well in this photo...but lateral side of the right front on the Chestnut...running down the groove, there is a white marking. The skin underneath is pink and it is not an injury. If you can't see it too well, I'll be going out where he is on Thursday to hold him and a couple of others for the farrier and can get a closeup of it. I can see it just fine in this picture, but I also know it is there. He's a reg. Quarter Horse

Oh..I have a ton of other angle pics of this guy that show most of his other markings...but none of his belly spot. If he doesn't think I'm gonna eat him on Thursday, I'll see if I can't get one of that too. It's about fist sized I think, right on his midline...it's been probably 5 years since I seen it though.

His reg. name is Zaxon Jack Two
