Weird Roan

No..no pictures because I can't find any online....but if someone could find me a picture of her, I'd love it...I thought her coloring was pretty neat looking. Her name is Pepper Chex Joy. Was watching RFDTV last night at work, and the Rasmussen QH Auction was going on. This mare came in with her foal..they were selling the foal, not the mare. The foal was true roan for sure. You can see a picture of her in their online sale catalogue http://www.rasmussenquarterhorses.com/page/0/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; actually..the filly on that page, the bay roan...is her filly (the picture matches the one in the sales catalogue). The sire is a buckskin. The mare just had roaning over her back, down her rump and shoulder a bit and a bit over the top of the barrel. Inside the roaning on the barrel and the rump she had...circles of dark color...looked like reverse dapples (or that someone took a dark round marker and started putting dapples on her..lol). I'd never seen a horse look like that before....thought she was cute and would love a picture of her to use as a color reference sometime when I'm looking for a neat horse color for some artwork. There was also a paternal half sister that was a frosty roan, but had a true roan foal at side...Peppermint Indian...but she wasn't nearly as neat looking as Pepper Chex Joy...she just had roaning on her rump mainly. Dry Spec A Pepper is the sire to both of them. It was neat watching it however....prices were crazy..some were going for $500...and the highest I seen sold was an '09 colt (#25) for $3100

Could you contact them, explain why you would like to have a photo of her and request the photo?

that second horse, the lighter buckskin roan, lives just 5 minutes away from me..LOL Very well mannered boy :) (thought it was Frosty, checked the URL of the picture and seen that yup...VanGundy's website URL)
I had my SSH mare there for 30 days back when we first got her....the people that own him are cousins to my boyfriend.

From seeing Frosty up close and in person....very VERY few white hairs on his body at all. a few behind the ears, some on his chest and a sprinkling on his rump.

But those roany babies of him...no doubt they are roans!

Are there just certain lines that do this minimal roaning on true roans? or does it just pop up at random?

From what I've seen it's almost totally random. As you've seen, Frosty is very minimal and yet produces LOUD roans. I've also seen LOUDS produce very minimals. I guess it's just expression variance like tobiano.
