Unusual pattern...How?

Any ideas on how this color/pattern came about? Kinda strange but cool too. Judy

That's what a bay silver that's been clipped looks like. Well, the ones that dapple anyway (some don't, many do).

That mystery has been solved. I have had this picture for a long time and was always curious about it. Thank you for the info. Judy

Really RF? If they look like this when they're not clipped why can't they look like this when they are?

lipigirl Mon, 07/06/2009 - 14:44

yes Fizz you are right but I do think that this one is a silver black to look at not silver bay - by my monitor - if it is then yes it IS rare to have the dapples unless something else is going on.

She's definitely bay based. Her head is VERY red.

How many bay silvers have you seen clipped? Might this only show with clipping? I found a whole slew of bay silvers with dapples last night though.
I have body clipped chestnuts that look like that.
Agreed. Bodyclipped chestnut or sooty palomino, maybe.

accphotography Tue, 07/07/2009 - 21:20

I've never seen a chestnut or palomino with webbing on the legs like that. I've also not seen one clip out THAT grayish.

You really think that head looks red based? That looks like a classic bay head to me.

I've seen MANY silver bays that are very dappled when clipped. This is one of mine:

This is her after coat growing out:

Another, but not as dapply....

I do love the huge amount of dappling on the OP's post, so pretty! :)

It does look like the one in CheyAut's avatar, but yeah, I've seen red bases with greyish silver legs like that when they're clipped. Let me look in my barn tomorrow and see if I have anything similar.

accphotography Tue, 07/07/2009 - 22:42

It's nto the grayish silver that gets me. It's the very distinct webbing that I've only seen on silvers and grays before.

Sara Tue, 07/07/2009 - 22:58

Okay, I'll look for that tomorrow then. I know I have some red bases with dappled legs but I'll have to see if they are webby-dappled or just regular-type dappled.

OK...it looks nothing like any Silver Bay clipped out that I have ever seen.
It also looks nothing like any Silver Black, clipped out that I have ever seen.
Whilst I have seen many of each colour, I am happy to admit that I have not seen every one in the world.
BUT it is NOT typical of a clipped Silver Bay or a clipped Silver Black.
This obviously does not mean it is not either!
