Showing off my Great Dane puppies
Someone said a bucket full of puppies and it got me thinking I haven't posted photos of our newest litter of Great Dane puppies. There photo are a bit old (2 weeks or so) they are now 7 weeks. I was to go and get some new photos but I am home sick with my sick kids. IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Picture532.jpg) IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Picture533.jpg) IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Picture534.jpg) IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Picture535.jpg) IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Picture539.jpg) Oh wait I did find a photo that is a bit newer. This one is at about 4 weeks. You can't see one of the puppies but this is the best one for the most puppies :) IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/IMG_3271.jpg)

Re: Showing off my Great Dane puppies

Daawwwwwwww!!!! Puppies! I love Danes! My aunt had several, one was a brindle that was shown, the other was a black and white goober of a dog. He wasn't a harlequin, just black and white spotted (my only experiences with harlequins have been very negative). He used to fleabite the cats and play with them and such.
Those puppies are just too cute! I love their individual shots, too, we didn't ever get really good shots of our puppies like that.

Re: Showing off my Great Dane puppies

Mom has a Brindle, Fawn, Boston, Two blacks, and a Harl. And the kiddy pool of puppies :rofl I have shown the fawn (3 points), but he got a scar and now can't be shown, I have plans to show the Harl this summer, but we will see what happens. It seems like I only have 24 hours in a day... how can I get everything done with so few hours?

I use to have a Brindle female but I had to put her down this past summer. It was very unexpected. I had my two dogs (Tara, black Lab and Mia, Brindle GD) Tara is older and I have been sorta watching her to see if her time is coming to an end. I don't want her to be in pain. So I was blind sided by Mia only 4 years old having to be put down. Now I tell Tara everyday that I am not ready to lose an other dog and could she please stay ok for a while longer. So far she is listening. :sad

I am getting pretty good at puppy photos now. They are not easy to get! It normally takes the 4 of us to do them. The two kids to play with the puppies until they are almost asleep and mom to set them up and me to take them.

So cute ! I used to have a Harly Dane and although I loved her dearly - she chewed everything - that was the end of my love affair with Danes. ;)

When do their tails and ears get done?

When do their tails and ears get done?

Tails are never done (as far as I have ever heard) and for our puppies only about 1 puppy in 3 litters will have ears done. If we know the ears are being done we will will let them go a week early (if they are a-ok) so around 7 weeks. We try to find our puppies pet homes and most pet homes have no desire to do the work that is needed for ears to turn out good. I personally like the natural ears better. Makes them look softer. But that being said I also love the look of really nicely done ears. If I had to pick I would natural, I am not that good at taping to do cropped. And now that you can show in CKC shows without cropped ears I bet we will see less and less of them done.

Re: Showing off my Great Dane puppies

Aaawwww - I love all puppies and Danes are a special breed. I have only owned one Dane, a fawn named Marmaduke. Marm had a fondness for picture windows - he'd go through one every chance he got...and as we lived in the city, he didn't get out except for walks twice a day. So, needless to say, for his sake and our home's, we didn't keep him very long.

Oh for some reason I thought their tails were done too, but I see now I was mistaken. no clue where I got that.

I personally LOVE them with their ears natural, but some people can't stand it.

That is "My Friend" - the Fawn male that mom has now. This photo was taken at his 1st show and he was in a class with cropped eared danes, still got best of breed :)

Very typical Dane, that....nice!!
I'm glad they have lifted the bans on uncropped dogs, it was so pointless!
Now if we can just get them to lift the docked ban, too, as we did over twenty five years ago........

I second RF's motions (on all points - nice Dane, pointless showing bans)...

One question though: I love that first puppy's unique pattern (banded Harl) the best, but I noticed it was not pictured in the pool shot...is there a reason?

Re: Showing off my Great Dane puppies

Critterkeeper - The only reason that puppy is not in the photo is because I couldn't get it to stand up with the other ones. I think at the time it was sleeping :rofl

raknrydr - This is a boston we had at the beginning of it all. She was the 1st dane in my life, she loved my kids so much she thought of them as one of her puppies (licked ears and all!). Her name was Camelot. She passed away a number of years ago, but she had a long full life.
IMAGE(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e113/AdellEquine/Camelot.jpg)

RF- Not only is it nice that we can show uncropped danes but the fact that they are doing just as well as the cropped ears is amazing. Otherwise an owner may feel "forced" into cropping. It is a very good thing.

Hubby was asking about the one that's wearing half a cardigan! You know, the one with the one black leg? Is that a male or female?

Shame NZ requires dogs to be a minimum of 9 months of age for importation from the US :(

Yes, that one is my favorite (besides the one Harl with the "blue" spot on it's shoulder - lol). I truely do like the "odd ball" ones...why else would I have a mismarked brindle mastiff puppy sleeping beside my chair as I type this...lol :love

Too bad about NZ import rules from the US, but what about Canada?

Critter, you must be related to my husband, as that was his second choice. LOL

When you say from Canada, are you talking about NZ's requirements for importation from there? I've not checked, but from memory when I was looking at European countries, etc., for someone else who was thinking of bringing in a dalmation, the only place that was less than 9 months of age was Australia, which I think is 9 weeks of age.

That does suck. Plus the cost... wow! A 9 month old dane is not tiny - the cost to fly would be crazy high! Plus all the extras... wow

Lipigirl - what is 9 months (well only 7 months) between friends. :laugh1

yep, 6 months of rabies titres, for one requirement. But, on the flip side, any American dog brought over to here would never have to get another rabies vaccination!
