Rabicano??

This little roan looking filly has 2 solid (& REG AQHA) parents. She is by a chestnut stallion (who has thrown a lot of roan looking bubs and his dam was a roan) and out of a sabino chestnut mare. please excuse the condtion of the mare and filly, my friend only just purchased them 4 days ago and they were from a station and not hard feed. Is she just a rabicano/sabino? Can roan be minimal the sire has it but it dosent look classic? The pics of sire are when he was younger, he has roan flanks now.

Hmmm that's weird. Do you have a more recent picture of the sire that shows his roaning?

Roan can be minimal. ACC has photos (or knows of a) very minimal roan who produced many True Roan offspring.

I think it's the same one I know of...he lives up the road from me and belongs to my boyfriends cousins:
http://vangundystables.tripod.com/index…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's the buckskin there :) He's quite the nice fellow and I've seen him up close and it is VERY hard to find his roan hairs even in person. His name is Sunfrost Bronsin...his sire was similar, but a darker base color and easier to see the roany hairs on. If you can hear the music on there...the guy singing is the one that put about a month of trail riding on my SSH mare..LOL

I'm confused! LOL I thought the sire was Genuine Roy?

Well, I agree that Roan can be very minimal, we have seen it before, but that notwithstanding, I think I would be wanting a PQ on that one!!

no..the one RMT was talking about ACC knowing of is Frosty up there...he is a roan, but doesn't show it very easily..not even in person. He was stalled right next to my SSH mare when she was there for a few weeks of trail riding and I got a good look at him several times. I thought he was just plain buckskin, then seen some foals of his out of solid bay mares that were bay roans (true roan)

dakotakdq Thu, 06/03/2010 - 19:24

lol Jenks I thought that too at first! lol

Genuine Roy has a lot of 'true' looking roan progeny, sne this filly is the same colour as her full brother and she has been dna from those 2 parents so be very interesting when we test her for roan. Hoping to do that next week when I go to see the filly in person :)

oh and the mare does have sabino type roaning through her coat too, forgot to say that before sorry

I personally think if she were THAT roaned over the hips she'd be roaned all the way up to the throatline if she were true roan, so I'll go with rabicano.

And yes Hayflinger, that's the one she meant. I personally think his sire is a great example even though he's darker as it's STILL barely visible.
