Pattern help??

I have a mare that is definitely pinto, but don't quite know what pattern or patterns she is. Want to breed her to a pinto stallion after i breed her to my solid bred pinto stallion.[img]http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g56/Me_Gnomers/clippedandwash2.jpg[/i…] here's the mare. other side and then what you can't see is that her face marking goes all the way under her chin and the underside of her head is white between her jawbones. Her sire is a black and white pinto and her dam "looks" to be either silver bay or chestnut. She was registered Liver chestnut and a close up of her face Any ideas on what patterns she could have and what color she might be would be appreciated.

I can't tell about the base color. Liver chestnut or seal brown most likely, leaning to brown.

She's tobiano + splash and probably sabino. TEST FOR FRAME if there is ANY chance the stallions could be frame. Even a SOLID can carry frame.

i am more inclined towards just Tobiano and Sabino but yes test for Frame !!!!!

That is what i was thinking, Toby and sabino. small possibility of splash. I was planning on having her tested and will add the stallion to my list. He's only had 1 live foal (but that's another story) a "solid" red colt. Mane and forelock body color, tail is WHITE with orange stripe. and pink freckled skin on all the parts NOT visible to sunlight, ie. undertail and under the actual coat. Plus he has some roaning. So there is the possibility that the pinto gene is there too i suppose. I guess i'll start a new thread for him as well..

Splash/Sabino/ Tobiano patterns.
Bay base (Sabino is most probably giving the roany patterning) for the colour.
I do not see Brown, not on this one, or Chestnut.
More pictures would be good, though.

That's a really light nose compared to a really dark head in the last photo.

That face white is WAY too wonky for sabino alone IMO.

Which is why I said Sabino / Splash / Tobiano.
I did wonder about Roan??
Is that possible?

ThornandThistle Tue, 06/01/2010 - 15:39

From what i know about her background general Roaning isn't possible. If it helps her sire is Freedoms Defender. I haven't seen him in a few years but he's a black and white tobiano if my memory serves me right...
I'll get better pictures when she is back at my house, she's out getting fat in a field at my friend's while i foal out his mini. I was thinking she was funny colored, i'm thinking she could possibly be a very dark seal brown. Her mane and tail are indeed brown almost black, i wish her leg white wasn't so extensive so her could at least somewhat have points if she is indeed bay or something normal like that :)

she's cute :)

my SSH mare has a blaze that continues on underneath and between her jawbones too..lol.

I found the foal pictures she sent me when i said i was interested in her :) Her nose is definitely one of the most startling things about her... She is SOOOO DARK and then has this nose that is almost copper colored, not even brown it is red! I'm thinking her sides are so red brown because she was SOAKED in urine and such when i got her, that it stained her that color. I think once we get her back to where she should be it'll be dark like the rest of her.

ThornandThistle Fri, 06/11/2010 - 01:15

YEAH!!! I got her registered today :) I'm sooo excited, she was one of those mini's that look like a pony and have just as much size..she measured in at a show today at exactly 38inches...missing part of her mane and not set up well...so that means we have a little wiggle room :D Next is Pinto registration...here's some pictures from today. and got some background info on her parents. Her sire is Freedom's Defender, a black and white pinto, while her dam is actually solid black :) sooo I'm thinking she's brown of some sort. After washing her today i did find a spot on the inside of her cannon that is actually a light light tan color, and the spot she has on her hind is brown, so she doesn't have black points ahahaha

Two blacks can not produce anything but chestnut and black. If they're both black, then so is she (which I don't see).

ThornandThistle Fri, 06/11/2010 - 01:44

That is what I was thinkin...so i'm pretty sure the Dam is a DARK DARK brown. I know the sire is black, he is super black I love him :) But i'm pretty sure that even though she's solid the dam contributed to some of Maggie's whiteness, cuz Defender is classic tobiano. I'll have to find a picture of him.

ThornandThistle Fri, 06/11/2010 - 01:49

Here he is, yes i got permission to post this by the way. I know it's small sorry.

ThornandThistle Mon, 06/14/2010 - 09:52

 I know right :) so yeah, i guess her mom is blacker then he is...he fades, she doesn't...So Maggie might actually be a funky liver chestnut...idk, we'll see if when i breed her she throws a chestnut from my boy...her summer coat has grown in and she's definitely a dark red/brown color...haha with tan points like a dog
