Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
She is - and the smartest puppy I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She is already paper trained, but will whine to go "out" to avoid accidents (even during the night), will come when you call or go lay down and stay upon command (she picked that nifty trick up last night). We are still looking for a name as I am at a loss and Hubby has been calling her D-mn It (and I FORBIT that one) so any suggestions would be welcomed...
So far for consideration are:
Athena the Mastiff (ATM for short - and we'll need one :rofl )
Jorja (yes like Ms. Fox)
Agatha (she has a nose for detecting the slightest hint of food)
But honestly, nothing seems to really fit (remember, she will be upwards of 150 lbs or better when grown :o ;) )
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
Oh, she's staying - no doubt. I've been wanting a large, yet gentle, "guard" dog ever since we lost Mariah (my Pyr). So far so good, she has met the cats and when she tried to use a tiny kitten (barely 5 wks old and about 1 lbs soaking wet) as a chew toy, that barn kitten did a number on her and now she sits and waits until they finish eating or invite her to join them in "play" before she makes a move...lol It is so funny.
And so far the names are getting whittled down with new ones added: Lilith (the dark one) and Guya (goddess of earth) - those where hubby's suggestions.
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
Let me run that by hubby real quick - Pickles, hummm not bad.
Edited to add: Sorry, hubby nixed the idea of Pickles. His words, "She is not going to be some cute, cuddlely puppy in a few months and a real monster when she grows up - that's why I picked Lilith." I told him that she just will NOT respond to that name after 24 hrs of trying to reinforce it's use...so he agreed to let me keep searching for just the "right" name.
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
I'm sure our Board's very own Lilith will also tell you that calling her Lilith (Demon Queen) is not going to make her loveable though.
How about Bodecea Bo for short ? Or Brady means large chested, Or Ebba means strong brave boar, Or Millicent meaning Brave and Strength and or Bernadette - Bernie for short - also means Strong !
Any of those help at all?
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
Those are great names...I have never had this much trouble finding a name for an animal...but it we'll find one yet.
Brandy came up with a couple when she stopped by (her first day back at work and away from the baby in over 6 wks). Anyway she shuggested Ziva (from NCIS - one of Hubby's fav. shows) or Caleigh (from CSI- Miami - another of his fav.) :bounce :rofl
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
I knew someone who had a brindle english mastiff bitch called Trash, Trash (also Gytrash) is the name given to phantom black dogs in the area I live in. These are giant, terrible black dog spirit things with glowing eyes that scare people out alone on dark roads :D
Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
:ymdevil: That would be a scary name (with that connotation)... but, hubby is a truck driver and they are all very superstitious about the "black dog"...they say if a driver sees one, they will die.
Hubby nixed the Ziva and Caleigh names, but decided Abby would work (provided she'd respond to it) as Abby Scuto is one of his favorite charactors on NCIS (besides Ziva). Abby is a sweet loving woman, but looks rather scary so that'll work... ;) . I guess because Abby is so close to Baby, she is responding to it very well, so Abby it'll be.

Here are a couple more pixs of "Abby" as she is meeting and playing with the cats

And her just "sitting pretty" (on command no less - well I'd like to think she knew what I meant when I said "sit pretty" )

Re: Look what I got last night - image heavy
When I first saw the pictures on the first page I thought Abby, that is too weird!
My friend used to have a huge great dane named Our Lady Abigale, so big dogs generally make me think of Abby. My dog Abby is not very big at all, though I never thought Abby suited her, but she is my brother's dog so I had to let him name her, lol!

Okay, update on Abby - with a few newer pixs. She is growing like a weed.
Christmas shopping with Mommy (upset that the cart stopped moving)

When we got Abby she was just a mismarked castoff that was to be a companion/watch dog for me and to help around the farm...but that unwanted puppy has proven herself to be a real gem. Neither of her parents could be called a working dog by any sort of stretch of the imagination (except maybe for guarding the couch).
Abby has excelled so much in all her training, that even her vets are amazed at her abilities. She isn't even 5 months and not only sits, stays, lays, halt, heels, "kennel up" (for getting into the truck), fetches and is now into "finding" targets. She started out "fetching" before she was 3 months and now we can keep her in the house, hide her favorite toy outside (usually in a truck or around or inside the closest barn), turn her loose and tell her to "find it" and she WILL. We are thrilled with our "throw-away" puppy...can you tell?
