Help me be responsibly irresponsible!!!

So, we just found out that our apts are now pet friendly. One roommate is already searching for a pomeranian.... I'm not much for little dogs, but whatever blows your skirt up I guess. My roommate and I are both talking about ferrets. Well, she is. I always wanted one, but I might be happy enough just playing with hers. I also like bunnies, I had one for a little while, but it was young and broke his back and was put down....which was sad. If I get none of the above, my plan since I was like 5 years old was as soon as I could, I would get a snake. I really want one, but not if I have a ferret.... I dunno. I am leaning towards snake, but the more I see these ferrets, the cuter they get. I want a color morph ball python, I think, if I get a snake. I was looking into those pretty extensively at one point. so, what critter should I get. No puppies or kitties, though. Not yet. these are my fav color morphs, but I doubt i'd be able to find them http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/pieAxanthic/pieaxanthic.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/common/pop_window.asp?image=project_i…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.constrictors.com/Collection/BallPythons/BlackEyedLeucisticBa…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.constrictors.com/Collection/BallPythons/IvoryBallPython.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/matrix/traits/lucy_blue_eye.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/piebald/piebald.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/pinstripe/pinstripe.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/matrix/traits/pastel.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/bumble%20bee/bumble_bee.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/granite%20stripe/granite_stripe.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/granite/granite.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfXprtqXH7k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.ballpython.ca/collection/cinnamon%20stripe/cinnamon_strip.ht…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but like, some of those are nearly 10,000

Uhm, with a combination of small dog and ferret, I would believe snake ownership would be contradicted...especially one of the python types. I don't think it would be much fun to wake up one morning to discover snakie-poo snacked on pommie-poo :o

Id go for the ball python ( we call them royal python in the UK ) we have kept several snakes in the past , royals , boa constrictors and corn snakes , I loved the ball pythons they are easy to keep, placid and in general happy to be handled , if you want to breed try the corns theyre easy , avoid boas as they can grow quite large ,, especially the females ,

I have to agree. If you want a snake, you don't want something that will eventually get so big you'll be buying full size rabbits to feed like the boas I got in college. I had one ball python that was always perfect. I did wind up with a pet rat that was previously feed, but he never got bigger than I could handle. Unlike my Burmese whom I had to re-home. He got the biggest. After that I quickly re-homed the Colombian red tail and stuck with the ball. The ball probably will never eat the pom either.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are awesome !!!!!!!!!!! :HB I'm really impressed especially the one that looks platinum silver and the Tigers - amazing !

I agree, that you should get a python and not a boa...too dangerous when they get big...or you could mix and match and get a breeding pair - then you could sell the babes and pay for college fees. ;)

Okay we know that the ball will probably not eat the pom, but what about the ferret? Especially if she gets a baby ferret (they are not that big -- like a large rat) and because they are long and slender, any snake would LOVE one for a dinner - LOL) 8-x

I've kept snakes before, but because I have birds now - I can't have one (and no matter how hard you try - they are escape artist and will one day get out) :BH

Baby Ferrets become great big, healthy strapping grown up Ferrets very quickly....no problem they will eat the Bunny and very probably the snake as well, so food problem solved....oh, and Ferrets SMELL, you need to have their scent glands removed and it is not all that nice an operation.
I want a ...Meerkat!!!! (well, two or three as they are pack animals...my friend has two (were three one died of old age) and they are incredible!!
Yes, they can get out of just about any cage you put them in but they go back at night time and they are SO sociable.

My suggestion is: NONE! Enjoy the freedom!
Ferrets require a ton of handling if you want them to be social with you. They are into everything and will eventually get out and run away. Snakes are just eating and pooping machines. Once the novelty wears off, it's just a snake. Rabbits nibble on EVERYTHING if they aren't caged. Mine ate the walls  While they can be litter trained, they still leave poop droppings.
So far the best pet I've had is the cat. Go figure. They are pretty self sufficient, they like to snuggle, they are litter trainable, and you can still leave for the weekend and they are fine! Other than the litter box mess, I love having cats!
