Gunners Frostbite

In the March issue of the Paint horse Journal's Paint Portfolio, Paint horse takes Italian Reining Futurity Championship. Gunners Frostbit is a solid white 2007 stallion owned my Mauro Pingani of Genova Italy, and bred by Mark Bradford of Aubrey Texas. Here is the link to the Italian Reining website, he is in the pictures that move back and forth at the top of the page, you can't miss him  Another Dominant white Paint? http://www.itrha.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1&lang=it

Given just the name, I'd say splash. ColonelSmokinGun (Gunner) is a well known high splash deaf reiner that has produced several solid white offspring.

It may not be able to, but I've never seen a Gunner offspring that looked DW, even counting the all whites. I think either he carries sabino and it boosts the splash (unlikely as nothing about him looks sabino) or the dams are carrying something. I know Guns and White Roses dam was splash. A couple of his other all white had dams with either obvious sabino, splash or frame.

I am familiar with Gunner, I had never seen any white offspring from him before, the one's I have seen all have about the same markings he has.

Do we have any updated pixs of Guns and Roses we could borrow? It's been a long time since I've seen any of her (I think she was just a yearling the last ones I saw).

Back problems? She sure has got his floppy ears. I like horses with ears like that. They always seem more layed back to me.

Monsterpony Wed, 03/02/2011 - 22:51

The ears are because she is deaf just like him. It is common in deaf horses. She has lordosis, which means she has a congenital swayback.

Deaf horses ARE remarkably laid back.

Yup even with her back! They use a lighter rider than many reiners and a special saddle and pad fit and apparently she's doing quite well!

It's the first time I've heard of her and she is just STUNNING! but then I'm a real sucker for a purty white horse lol :)

I just meant floppy eared horses in general, is she deaf as well tho?. Seems like deafness in all animals is linked to white patterns.

critterkeeper Thu, 03/03/2011 - 09:37

Yes, deafness in horses is linked to splash white, as I imagine it is in most species of animals.

What The Hey are you referring to the pixs down the left side of the profile? those are just random gallery pixs and not related to your profile pixs :) ...at least I hope not as I get a different set everyday... ;)

Edit to add P.S. love the kitties and puppy avatar

Splash white is the only pattern that is known to cause blue eyes and deafness. You need pigment in your inner ear for hearing to function so if the white pattern on the horse's face is high enough, it can affect the inner ear.

Hey What The Thu, 03/03/2011 - 14:53

Nope. It's still showing me a mini horse complete with blue ribbon :) what's really funny is that I don't even own a mini horse :) It is supposed to be one of my cats with my puppies lol.

That is weird, I see your cat pic, It was not letting me change mine earlier, It say's it's changed but then it goes back to my previous one, so I just deleted it and will go back and try to ad one later.

If I was a betting person I would bet clearing your browser cache fixes both your image problems.

Why your seeing a mini horse though What Tha I don't have a clue.
