Tragic for both horse and rider

:-( This is one of our local headline news stories this morning... It is tragic for both the lady who was killed and her horse. This is just proof that you can never be too cautious when dealing with a 1,000+ pound animal. :-S http://www.wxii12.com/news/29393265/detail.html

A friend of mine had her daughter killed by a very quiet gelding who spooked and threw her off and she hit her head on the curb- she was wearing a helmet.
My friend had a full work up done on the gelding and found he had been shot with an air gun, so she passed the horse on to a mutual friend who eventually sold him on with a clean "record"
These things are not the animals fault, and however much the families may want revenge, it does no-one any good at the end of the day.

I am always saddened by that scene in "Gone with the Wind" I was cross when I read the book long before I saw the film, but I was really cross when I saw the film! (Because the pony was so pretty)

There were no more details, but it seems that in our state if a horse kills someone it is deemed a dangerous animal (the same as say a pit bull would be)...throw in the distraught family and euthanasia was almost a foregone conclusion...and we don't know if the horse was injured during the event. Short of a broken leg I don't know if I could do it.
