Re: Tragedy in the polo world
Toxocology takes a lot of time. Unlike what they show on TV, you can't just run a "tox screen." There are thousands of different known toxins and each one has to be run separately, though only so many toxins would produce those symptoms (ataxia, fever, acute death).
Re: Tragedy in the polo world
Nothing really useful has come up except for more and more rumors. The newest info is that the cause of death was related to acute heart problems. The officials in charge of the investigation are being completely tight-lipped, which is expected in this sort of situation. The toxocologist at my university said that so far she and her colleagues have been brain-storming, but none of them are involved in the investigation. There is no toxocologist in Florida so that samples from the necropsies will most likely be sent to Univ of Fl for analysis, which might take weeks. She also said that there are many possible toxins that could have this sort of effect including things as simple as someone accidentally confusing cattle feed with horse feed.
