Personal Connection to Kentucky Derby!

Hello, Friends! Sorry for the drive-by-posting, and my long absence, I've been very busy w/ my new job. Anyhow, wanted to share my personal connection with this years' Kentucky Derby: I was reading the list of horses/trainers/jockeys and recognized/recalled one of the trainers' names; Jeff Bonde ... so I googled and Holy CowHorse! Jeff was my Uncle's TB trainer! I have a 1981 photo of me in the winner's circle at the San Joaquin County Fair (Stockton, CA) track w/ uncle's filly, Lady Harridan who broke the track record that day. Man! ...and I see that Calvin Borel is up on Twice the Appeal. They're gonna get MY support! GO JEFF!!!!!! [IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/78SilvAnniv/miscellaneous/151.jp…] L to R: Mom's boss, Mom, Me, Grandpa Harry, beauty queen, some man, Uncle McGee (Harry Jr), Groom, Lady Harridan, Jocky (Ken Tohill) and Trainer (Jeff Bonde)

Wow, that is a great story...thanks for sharing. I will be watching as usual. I have only missed 3 Derby Days in over 40 years of watching (both while overseas), my parents never watched so I had to wait until I was old enough to have my own tv... :love

Well, I'm slightly bummed that Jeff, Calvin and Twice the Appeal didn't do very well, I had thought it auspicious that they drew the #3 slot that Lady Harridan had in my win-photo, but I'm *still* geeked to think about someone I've met racing a horse in the Kentucky Derby!

I was holding that framed photo up to the TV and shouting for Uncle McGee (God rest his soul) to watch as I cheered Appeal on.
