Palomino to Gray

I am having a discussion on a gaited horse board and it has been brought up how colors can change as they gray. Okay, *I* brought it up. :D Does anyone have a link to the pally colt who grayed, but his progression photos showed him looking as if he were born black and had never been palomino? Thanks, if it is available. heidi

You can try digging through this thread

http://www.gaitsofgold.info/wowbb/forum…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its on another gaited horse forum and you'll have to register to see some of the pictures. I'm not sure if the owner ever tested the horse to be sure he was palomino but I was (and still am) convinced that is what he was. You can see the color changes he went through.

To bad we don't have the old forum at one time there was a really nice palomino to gray thread....

Someone is bound to have kept that progression. Acc? Maigray?

I believe it was a TB or a WB... I don't remember his name though.

Yeah, it was a TB/WB sort of horse. Very tall and the photos were a group of four set in a square showing his progression from light/bright pally to gray, but as he grayed, his base color and white mane/tail changed and looked deepest, darkest black.
It was odd, yet very stunning to see the difference altogether like that.

I'll flip thru that GOG thread, but I don't think I'll find the particular photo progression I was thinking of.

EDIT: Thanks ACC! That's the one!

Whoa! That. Was. AMAZING. I totally didn't expect such dark color, though with gray foals being born dark (to make up for the later color loss) it shouldn't be so surprising. But, she was so dark! I kept repeating: "That's palomino?"

Could have been flaxen chestnut I suppose. Before she was tested many people thought buckskin, chestnut, you name it. LOL! By a dark buckskin and out of a gray (theorized black). Tested ee Aa CRcr Gg. They didn't test for gray in the beginning (test wasn't out yet actually). They just got the results of that a couple of days ago. I always knew she was, but there were maaaaaany doubters. They were convinced she was just sooty. I've NEVER seen a sooty palomino foal. The sooty always seems to come later IME. I personally think the same of buckskin. :mrgreen:
