We've had the house on th market for just under 2 months now and today got an offer. In the meantime we lost the 4 bed house with the sloped pasture but there is still available a 2 bed house with 1.75 acres and stabling all flat and well fence and good shap - but everything now hinges on the seller. Her house has been on market since February and she has had no offers since then and has not dropped the price of her house. Our offer comes from a buyer who has a cash buyer for her house and they want to move fast but we have had to take £20k off the price of our house and they do not have any more they can offer, so if we except this offer we are passing it on to the seller of the house we like and are offering her our top offer which happens to be £20k under her asking price. She is thinking about it and letting us know in morning. There is nothing I can do now - I can't stand waiting :-w I am terrible at it and this has been a lesson in patience - I know I wont sleep tonight and I didnt get much sleep last night because I knew an offer was coming but didnt know what it was......my M.E. is now not good at all. b-( If any of you have time and can say a little prayer that she says yes and we can get on with moving - that would be great. Is in his hands now. :ympray:

Good Luck, the housing market is in the doldrums right now.
I hope there is somewhere you can rent more land, though, if you are buying this big beastie you are going to need one heck of a lot more than 1.75 acres!!!

lipigirl Fri, 10/23/2009 - 10:59

She said no to our offer. :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

I'm so sorry...what area are you looking? What are your criteria (besides 2+ acres - prefer more w/stable): #bedrooms, #baths, garden?, garage?

I was digging around and this one sounds rather delightful -you could even rent out the detatched to a nice couple (she could babysit and he could help with work around the property...hehehe, I'm scheming already :rofl )

But this one would be even better - you could board horses for others to cover the additional mortgage...

Sorry CK have been picking myself back up - it was SO exciting to get a buyer and then to realise that the 3 properties which would have done us have gone it was very upsetting.....but God never closes one door without opening another - we have missed out on SO many properties though - one very nice one 4 bed bungalow with 4.5 acres - such a shame.

Unfortuntely Cornwall is about 200 miles too far away !!! Would love to live there but we are looking in Hants, Sussex, Kent and South Essex for a house.

Thanks for trying though. ;)

Something will come along - so sorry Lipi!

rabbitsfizz Sun, 10/25/2009 - 15:09

Oh Crikey, just about the most expensive part of Britain!!!
Limited land, too.
I do wish you luck, as I have a feeling you are going to need it!!! :flower

critterkeeper Sun, 10/25/2009 - 15:58

Okay, this one is a lot closer (maybe not close enough, but I'm still looking :bounce )
http://www.homesonsale.co.uk/smallholdi…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or better yet - with this one you could build with what you save...it's 26 acres for only 260,000
http://www.homesonsale.co.uk/26_acres_p…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

OMG - if it were so far out (might as well be in the US for all the good it'd do you) this would be just PERFECT...
http://www.homesonsale.co.uk/5_acre_fre…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This one is only a bit closer - drats as it would be lovely too... :cry:
http://www.homesonsale.co.uk/equestrian…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's something different - a bit small on the land, but has potential elsewise (and cheap enough to keep looking for land)
http://www.homesonsale.co.uk/something_…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And this one is a bit further out and pricier than you wanted, but not by that much so it might work...

Cornish born and bred and living in Essex now by choice, lol. I wouldn't want to be in Cornwall even if it wasn't too far, house prices are disproportionate because of the second homes, the only jobs are in tourism and wages are low and it really is the middle of no-where. Broad band is a bugger to get furthar out in the sticks and some of it is yet to get channel five. I mean I like countryside but right now I have lovely country and a 1/2 hour walk or 10 min drive into a town with shops and things, I can even get to London or Cambridge resaonably easily. In Cornwall its a 2 hour or more drive just to the border then you have to get where-ever your going. Very pretty but a bit too isolated for me.

lipigirl Mon, 10/26/2009 - 09:37

I agree Lillith, it's lovely for hols but to live there not till I retire !!!

CK yes you wereright Cambridgeshire is too far !

Nice ideas though. ;)

Thanks.xx

Look, I don't know whether you want the Upwell house (it does look nice) but I really want to live next door to you in Cuddles Dike Bank.....sorry, I google mapped it and I love the names of these places , but I sit here thinking of the laughs I could get out of having that as my address.
I really have to get a life!! :rofl

OMG Amanda look what I found for you - at this price you could afford to live in town until you built your dream home...and you'd still have your stables/land. And it's NOT too far out. :bounce

http://www.vantageland.co.uk/land-for-s…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Or even this one? Lot 10 is just over 3 ac. with a pond
http://www.vantageland.co.uk/land-for-s…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This one is a bit further out, but is already fenced in new post & board fencing, also water & stabling available nearby...

lipigirl Tue, 10/27/2009 - 13:33

LOL ! CK that is just grazing land you can't build on it, if you could the price would start at £250K and in these cases would most probably be more like £500K. In the UK there are very strict rules as to where you are allowed to build houses, even some grazing land may be ok for sheep and cows to graze but you might have to get a 'change of use' allowance from your local council to graze a horse on it -yes I know they are both grazing animals but I did not make the rules.

We (my Dad and I as hubby is at work) are going to see 2 houses tomorrow one has 2 acres and stables but we are going to have to beg steal and borrow to get it - the other is smaller cheaper and has only 1.25 acres so would need stables too !

Will let you know how we get on.xxxxxxx

critterkeeper Tue, 10/27/2009 - 20:27

I guess my "Americanism" is showing :oops: ...here if you buy the land, you can use the land pretty much for whatever you want (for the most part - there are some restrictions like, you can't build an apartment building on top of a toxic waste dump - :lol: ). I do know of some nice areas built on top of household waste dumps though (Mount Trashmore in Va. comes to mind - don't you just love the name, it started as a mound of trash)... :bounce
http://www.virginia.org/site/descriptio…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That is why I said you could buy the land and live in town, as it said it was grazing land with stables (I did note that it was for horses).

rabbitsfizz Wed, 10/28/2009 - 15:45

No, there is no way nowadays to get to build on land designated as grazing land unless you are the Government, in which case you can build on Green Belt or anywhere else you please.
We protest, and we fight these Government inconsistencies, but, in the end, we lose.
We do not need more houses, we need less children!!!! :BH :BH :BH

I don't think you should be allowed to have kids unless you can prove that you can afford to raise them.
I have NO problem with anyone having twenty five children so long as they are paying for them, not me!!! :hammer :hammer

NZ Appaloosas Wed, 10/28/2009 - 17:47

You're not alone in that Rabbit...the green belt around Christchurch is disappearing, courtesy of an enterprising property developer who got himself elected to council after failing to get permission to develop certain property that came under "green belt" protection...guess conflict of interest doesn't apply in this sort of thing. :BH :BH
