They are calling him Amber Champagne, but he looks darker, that's is actually called Classic Champagne right? I like the classic the best but there is this other stallion in CA that is Amber, that is sooo shiney, I love the metallic shine.

Here is his site: http://www.skippinthebars.com/

And what does the gold ones look like? do they have a blond mane and tail like a palomino?

Threnody Sun, 05/29/2011 - 14:44

Hes described as a sable champagne so he looks like he has a seal brown base if that's the case, don't know if he was test confirmed though. The other stallion they have is described as a smokey grullo. I see smokey black, no dun though. Anyone else?

rodeoratdogs Sun, 05/29/2011 - 15:15

Oh ok your right, I said Amber and the first horse does say Sable Champagne, ok so Sable is brown base and Classic is black? From the example on here he looks closest to the Classic Champagne but there is no example for the Sable.

The second stallion does have dun in his pedigree so he could be a very dark grullo. I wouldn't totally rule it out but agree that its more likely he's smokey black.

They can look very much like a palomino but they can have a self colored mane and tail also.

For example

Thanks Daylene, yeah I noticed there second stallion is really dark, but if they are saying he's Grulla I would imagine they tested him unless his dorsal stripe is more noticeable in person. *shrugs* but your right he looks more smokey black.

Here is the pedigree on the first stallion, his sire is Classic and the dam does say brown.

The owners said, the Tobiano Champagne was EE, Aa with a brown base (Sable). I wanted to do use the coat calculator on Animal genetics but they don't give Sable Champagne as a choice, just gold, amber & classic. Don't we have one on here?

Daylene Alford Mon, 05/30/2011 - 10:37

We did but took it down because I found an error while I was writing the new flash one. I am almost done with it. I finally figured out how to get the images to load correctly with a mouseover.

Monsterpony Mon, 05/30/2011 - 15:41

You can select Amber champagne as the base in the color calculator and then assume that any foal with an A from the sire is actually an At.

rodeoratdogs Mon, 05/30/2011 - 21:55

Yeah that's what I did, it still came out 25% classic, 25% Amber 12.5% Bay Dun, 12.5% Grulla, 12.5% bay and 12.5% black. not including the white patterns. I kinda like that there would be some element of surprize there. The only thing I don't know is if I would be asking for to much white with Splash, Sabino and Tobiano. I don't know if they have checked the stallion for frame, Annie doesn't have it but the stallion does have frame in his background and that would be another surprize element that could possible give me a almost all white horse with all the white patterns going on. Been there done that.

Daylene Alford Mon, 05/30/2011 - 22:29

What is the dam's genotype rodeo? I'll run it through the unfinished calculative and post the results.

Oh I was thinking of Annie, she is ee, aa, Dd, n/Spl n/Sb, and we thought she was actually Rabicano as well, but it's very minimal expression. You don't have to ad that... lol, it even makes it more confusing.

Daylene Alford Mon, 05/30/2011 - 23:05

I didn't manually verify these but they look right. I'm gonna have to fix a print option for the flash calculator because you can't copy and paste the results....

Sire EE Ata CHCH TOTO
dam ee aa Dd SPLspl SBsb

Oh, the calculator only has an option for SB1 but you can substitute any sabino where the an SB1 is.
Even with his being local, why would you consider using a horse with such a poor back leg??
I would definitely look at him in person first, and I appriciate those kind of comments on here. Could it be just the pictures? I wish they had more of his babies pictures. There is one horse that is also for stud that is a son of his in Idaho, but he's huge, I don't want to breed to anything over 15h, I'd need a ladder.

Monsterpony Wed, 06/01/2011 - 20:01

Some of his other pictures look better. I am quite surprised they choose that one out of all of them as the cover picture. He just looks awkward in it.

rodeoratdogs Wed, 06/01/2011 - 20:36

Yeah I noticed the other pics of him do look better too. There are a lot of factors that I will consider though before I actually decide on a stallion. I would want to know his disposition what he was like to ride, I wan't buttery gates. I like certain bloodlines more that other's, good bone & substance, Annie is pretty dainty. I actually like the Hancock & Driftwood horses for bone but sometimes they can have a pretty course head, and I don't want to take away from Annie's pretty face, and of course conformation, and I want cool color, but not at the price of conformation that would just be stupid.

Before I actually every breed Annie, I'll be getting some opinions from all of you on here. I want to make the best choice possible. Window shopping is super fun though. I usually look a horse for a long time and either rule them out or they are still on the menue, while I'm looking at others.
I still like DUN IT OK.

MP what do you think of this one? He has some you tube videos and he looks super melow, he has Skipper W Bloodlines, and Annie does as well.

you tube video, love the yawnee's at the end, cracks me up reminds me of Doc.

Monsterpony Thu, 06/02/2011 - 01:28

Oh, my previous comment was actually on this stud. That front page picture makes him look awful with his hind feet practically under his rib cage. As to both of the studs, I would never even consider a stallion where the owner has them standing on deep footing for conformation shots. I want a proper shot on a level surface with the entire leg showing down to the hoof. Any horse in grass or deep sand with an angle to the photo (think TWH, Arab, Mini) or an angle to the horse automatically makes me want to know what they are hiding.

rodeoratdogs Thu, 06/02/2011 - 09:07

I don't like that picture either but like you said the other pictures are much better. I'm not sure if she is actually trying to hide anything or if she just isn't really understanding that that fisrt pic isn't makeing her stallion look all that good. It's not just the high grass but he's standing on a bit of a hill so the angle of his legs looks weird.
