ID tags!

Because I totally needed another hobby, right? I've started making ID tags! I'm really excited, I've been wanting some for my cats for a while, and I figured why not make them myself? I haven't gotten very good yet, but that's what practice is for, right? Anyway, I wanted to show off what I've done so far. I need lots more practice, obviously, but considering these are the first I've ever done, I'm pretty happy! Riot's [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0823…] Zoot's [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] Honey's (I haven't decided what charm to do, I'm thinking the heart. It's for my cousins' puppy) [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] [img]http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/MiKheTosk/ID%20Tags/2010-12-0822…] Riot and Honey's tags was made using 2 brads each that I hammered out flat and broke the long parts off. Zoot's tag I cut 2 pieces of aluminum flashing and sanded down the edges! But yeah, I'm pretty pumped about getting some done! I do need more practice... soooo.... if anybody wants a tag, let me know! I have a 2 week break coming up, so I'll have lots of time to get some done! I'm gonna start looking into mixed metals and more charms and that sort of thing, too! Yay! They don't have to be for cats and dogs, they'd be nice hanging off a horse's halter or labeling something as yours or that sort of thing.

Hey What The Thu, 12/09/2010 - 02:08

That's very cool Krickette! I'd love one but I'm in Oz :(

rodeoratdogs Thu, 12/09/2010 - 09:39

Those are very cool, I like the heart one the best, but all with the designs on them are great!

TheRedHayflinger Thu, 12/09/2010 - 10:09

very cute! how much? I have the store made "tags" hanging off my mares bridles for when we go trail riding if they'd happen to dump the rider and take off or something...and I put them on their "flood season" halters...but these are just too cute!

Danni Thu, 12/09/2010 - 19:05

LOL, that's what I was going to say, very cool! I like them!! My dogs want one!!

critterkeeper Fri, 12/10/2010 - 06:39

OOOOHHHH< I want one for Abby...should I just im the details or should I just CALL seeing as we all have your phone # now....lol :hammer

Krickette Fri, 12/10/2010 - 13:07

haha, yeah, I didn't worry about blurring the # since bots cant read pictures and it doesn't have my area code.

Got your pm Critter, I'll get to work on one!
And Hayflinger, if you want one right now they're free since yall are just giving me practice, I'll probably do like 5 or so freebies, but if you want to cover shipping that'd be lovely!
Once I get good at them and have better materials I think I'll sell them for like $10 or so, but I don't feel comfortable charging for something that I'm not super confident at haha

Krickette Fri, 12/10/2010 - 16:56

Thanks!!! I'm glad yall like them, really! I have already invested in this little project, so it feels good to know that people actually think they're decent.
I'm hoping that I can set up a shop online and sell some. I also want to make some ready made charms that say simple generic things like "bad dog" "pet me" that sort of stuff, and put it at the local pet shop. And maybe have a form where people can put in custom orders.... Still have to talk to them though and see if they'd allow it.
How much do you think I can charge for these? I'm thinking like $10 or so, maybe more for the ones with charms or just less for the ones without. Then if I sell like 10 of them I'll be able to afford a really cute font, which I could charge a smidge extra for!

Monsterpony Fri, 12/10/2010 - 16:59

I want one! I don't have anything to use it on though. It's a bad idea to get a pet for the tag, right? Hmmm, maybe Bree needs one.

Krickette Fri, 12/10/2010 - 18:18

haha, probably not the best plan! I'm making a necklace for my friend, which is exciting. Just bought the charm for it today. In the past 2 days I've bought a bunch of copper and aluminum blanks, a bunch of charms, some blanks that look like guitar picks, and 4 design stamps! I'll be able to do a spiral, a fluer de lis, a starburst, and a squiggly line with some dots!

Krickette Fri, 12/10/2010 - 20:35

Awesome!
Also, I made another tag just now! It's still out of my crappy material, can't wait till I get my new stuff in.

It's a bit thin, so I did two layers...I just wish I had a soldering gun so I could make sure it wouldn't come undone.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 12/10/2010 - 21:05

soldering guns aren't too pricey...I think I got mine at Sears for about $20 or so several years back...and for some reason, Radio Shack sells solder wire cheaper...but their guns are way more $$$

Krickette Fri, 12/10/2010 - 23:22

Yeah, I think Glenn has 2 or 3, so hoping I can just steal one of his ;)
I already have silver solder from when I had him fix my earrings.... but I'd want cheaper for this stuff.

Also, more tags!!!!

For my friend's two dogs for christmas, Daisy and her daughter, Dingo. Not sure I like the silver charm with Dingo's tag, but it's all I got

Danni Wed, 12/15/2010 - 23:21

This would have been an awesome gift for a mate of mine for christmas(well her dogs), ah well maybe next time!

Krickette Thu, 12/16/2010 - 00:01

Yeah, I'm not sure I could ship anything to Australia before christmas, haha. Glad you like them though!!!

Maigray Thu, 12/16/2010 - 09:33

I love 'em. I especially like the "You Fetch It" tag. Priceless!

accphotography Thu, 12/16/2010 - 21:31

I SOOOOO want one for each of my cats and at LEAST one for Lace's main halter if not her other two halters and some of her tack!!! I think they are just AWESOME!!

Krickette Thu, 12/16/2010 - 21:49

Thanks y'all! It's really encouraging to know people like them! I am waiting anxiously for my new materials to come in. What I'm making stuff out of now is fine for a dog and cat, but I want something more substantial for a halter. I'm actually going to look into those nameplates that you can screw into a halter, once I get a pretty font. I got some pretty designs in the mail today! I have a fleur de lis but it's very difficult to stamp, I need to play with it more. I also got a spiral, a squiggly line, and a starburst thingy (*)
I have to come up with something for these eyelets though. The metallic ones are fine, but the one on the go fetch tag and the one for Zoot are both getting torn up. I'm going to get some sort of sealant or something.

Krickette Thu, 12/16/2010 - 23:13

The aluminum I can do in whatever shapes I can manage to cut. only problem is getting two cut exactly the same so I can make two layers. Plus the fact that I'm using scissors and not tin snips >.<
I did cut a pretty cute heart, but its a little too bendy, I think I'm going to add another layer to it.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 12/17/2010 - 09:06

have you tried spraying with clearcoat? or at the very least, clear nail polish on the eyelets? I use nailpolish on some of my more "fun" (ie: cheap! and cute!) earrings to keep them from getting all tore to bits
