Help with my browser...

Umm I kinda broke my browser and I have no idea how or even when, I just noticed today. You know the little bar at the bottom of IE where you can see links and things when you mouse over? Mine is missing..... :sad Anyone know where I can find it ?

I'll detail the list of problems!

1) You are using Internet Explorer

Naughty!!! That's unsafe, and silly. There are far better browsers, lol. I have 3 that I use before I touch IE. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome (shiny new beta!), and Opera.
Mozilla is amazing. Many wonderful addons like stumbleupon and some very useful ones too. It's my favorite, cause it had tabs first.
Google chrome is lovely too. It's very "new" and shiny. Like, it has incognito windows if you want them (doesn't save anything in your history), and if you drag the tabs around, you can actually pull one off and it becomes a new window. It's pretty. And it doesn't use as much memory as Firefox
Opera is amazing, I use the mini version on my phone. It's veeery low profile, like, it doesn't bog anything down, it just keeps on trucking.
So...go download one of those (or all 3) and use those instead. No more of this silliness from IE.

I use Opera as well, I love it, but I do have to keep IE as back-up for some things, like official online applications and such that don't recognize Opera. But it's a fabulous browser.

*shrug* I'm in love with Firefox. Admittedly I haven't tried Opera though. I've never been a big Google fan so I haven't tried Chrome either. The plugins in Firefox are priceless for a web designer IMO.

Jenks Thu, 05/07/2009 - 16:00

I won't try Chrome until it's out of beta. Opera huh? Never tried it....All the kinks are worked out?

I switched to Firefox for all the nifty plugins....but some older sites aren't designed for it.

I use Firefox or Chrome whenever possible but some of the sites I have to log on to for work will only work with IE. Stupid!

why did I know this would come up
I've been using IE forever and I dont really care.
Besides its not my computer, my dad is old fashioned with computer stuff and for some reason doesn't like other browsers and I dont care enough to download one for myself. I get used to one thing and if i get something with new features I never use them anyway. I'll put it this way: I didn't get a DVD player untill the dvd section of the video rental was twice as big as the tapes and I use a tracfone for a cell

I just would worry about all the yucky viruses. bleh. firefox is much safer. And it's purdy.

And yes, all the kinks are out of Opera, it's been around a good long while.
right now I have firefox up, and it's mem usage is 730000 K
I also have Opera up with the same number of tabs, and its at 8500 K

Hubby used to use netscape, and would chide me about how much safer he was than me cuz I use IE...I used to have to leave the room, tho', everytime his computer crashed cuz I was afraid of laughing so hard I'd hurt his feelings...if netscape was so much better, why was he constantly having problems and me with "horrid" IE never had any? :laugh1

I wouldn't use that one, either, lol. I put my trust in those 3. Well, those 3 and good judgement. You can have whatever browser you want, but if you click an ad that says you're the 1209380917480712th visitor....well, that's your own darn fault. That and naughty bits. Don't look at those on the internet. It makes me giggle because I have a lot of guy friends, and they have computer problems much more often....

*eta: not saying you're hubby does either of those things, lol! that didnt translate the way i wanted i dont think

This was back when netscape was like the only alternative to IE, as far as browsers that worked with Windows. I think he's on IE with his latest computer, maybe firefox...I know he downloaded mozilla, but I have also seen him pulling up IE. :laugh1 I've been nice and not done the :booty :booty :booty :booty :booty thing at him. :angel

We regularly argue about Windows v. Linux, etc., IE v. other browsers...I point out that it is rather obvious that the majority of people find Windows and IE more user friendly than Linux, etc., otherwise Microsoft wouldn't have such a large share of the market...he usually walks/turns away at that point. :laugh1

I can't answer to Linux, as I don't use that system, but IE is definitely not more user friendly than Firefox or Opera. I consider myself a fairly average user in this day and age, and no more tech savvy than most, so ease of use, performance, and security when I'm online are important to me.
