English saddle fit help... again...

Sara Tue, 04/28/2009 - 16:45

It doesn't fit. The pommel is higher than the cantle which typically means it is too narrow in the front. If you rode in it, it would tend to make you sit in a chair seat and it would be hard to post or two-point.

I agree - and spent a long time posting an answer to you last night - where did it go ???!!

Yes Sara is right it should not sit like that on the horse - almost looks like a jockey saddle the way it sits.

I know nothing about english saddle fit, but looking at the picture I can imagine where your knees would be and you'd either be sitting like a jockey or the knee padding is not going to be under your knee. Could be the saddle. Either way I don't think it'll be a proper fit for a rider?
What does your husband say? I think I remember you saying he's a trainer?

You're on a budget, right? If you don't have a lot of money to spend on a saddle, I'd recommend an HDR. For an inexpensive saddle the fit is good, from a distance they have the look that is in at the moment and you can get them used very cheaply. I just bought one for my daughter for around $250.

That's the saddle I was talking about when I said I bought that bridle color to match the saddle I was going to get. I've already 100% decided this is the saddle I will get... when I can afford it (aka never):

It's the HDR Advantage CC in oakbark. I'd need it in a 17" and a wide tree. Sadly I just haven't had the spare $600+ to drop on it. I've tried that very saddle on her, but in the medium tree and it fits very, very well, save for being a touch too narrow.

I can't imagine english saddles varying that much that they have "the look that's in". LOL. Don't they all look alike??? Aside from the softness and suppleness of the leather that you can tell by feeling... I'd have no clue which saddle was "in" and which was "out" :laugh1

I have the same problem with Western saddles! I hear people murmuring things like "oh dear god, I can't believe she showed Western Pleasure in a saddle that COLOR" and I have no clue what they're talking about. I can't tell the difference between any of the western saddles, let alone know what color is in!
