Fowl means anything birdy-like I think. Poultry is reserved specially for birdy things used for meat/eggs/etc.

For fancy terms.... avian is for birds in general and chickens are a type of bird. Kind of like equine is used for donkeys, horses, etc.

Are we just going to have chickens? :( I was hoping for birds in general because I bred Society Finches when I was a kid. They have cool colors, too!

I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with birds (or small mammals for that matter). The problem is there are so many different species each with different genetics. I will definitely cover chickens sometime in the future. I suppose the others will depend on interest.

Doesn't feline refer to all species of cats though?

Maigray Mon, 07/18/2011 - 15:22

I used to have lovebirds. It's been years since I looked at the genetics, but I could brush up and do an article

I'd be interested in chickens--I'm kinda curious but not enough to go educate myself the hard way ymwhisle
Oh sorry, I only skimmed the posts, I'll have to go look it up now as I haven't heard that term!
No worries. It is a very rarely used word. I had to double check myself before I posted to see if I remembered right.

Daylene Alford Wed, 07/20/2011 - 08:50

I think I may go with Avian, as its much more common. I don't think anyone would know what was meant if I used galline.

Maigray, If you would like to write an article that would be great!

Third Peppermint Wed, 07/20/2011 - 12:22

Maybe we can have different pages for the different species for the bird site? Liiiiike a section for chickens, a section for lovebirds, etc. Just because there are so many different types of birds and they're weird.

Daylene Alford Wed, 07/20/2011 - 14:15

Ya, I think that is probably the only way to handle it BUT don't expect all those birds to get added for a good while. I will do a vote soon on what do do next. It will probably be either chickens or mice/rats, which ever gets the most votes.
