CANTER!!!! For the win!!

Omfg I cantered jazz! I lunged her, she went perfect to the left, wouldn't go to the right, but it was getting dark and the mosquitos were going to carry us away, so I gave up on that and got on. She walked well, and trotted beautifully, and mom said if I could get a fast enough trot she wouldn't notice if I cantered her. So we trotted and worked on turning and stopping and such. The a deer spooked her and she ran forward, but didn't buck. So I trotted more and finally got fast enough and cantered! I was leaned forward and holding the horn expecting a buck so I didn't notice how it felt but mom said it looked smooth! Yay!!! Then we cooled down and worked on backing, and then got off. I'm so excited! Oh, and she's lazy enough to be a hunter for sure! I rode in little english spurs and kept having to pop her in the butt with the reins, lol! Also, has anyone ever had issues with a horse not wanting to lunge a certain way? I've always sort of wondered about her vision...

We have one that is funny going a certain direction but the only one I ever had a real problem with was Cartwheel cause he is blind in one eye.

Horses can have a dominant 'side', such as humans in being left- or right-handed. You probably need to do some more ground work with her on the 'bad' side, working on suppling and developing that side, doing lots of shoulders-in, etc., from the ground. I have a friend in Auckland who spends a minimum of 10-15 minutes with her horses, working them from the ground as their warm-up.

By working on the ground, I don't mean lunging, this is done with halter/cavesson and lead.

I have had a couple horses with one way phobia. It was mostly just being a horse, there was nothing wrong except they never were asked and were put out for being asked.

I had one that could walk fine on a lead but would freak out on a circle :? After nearly dislocating both my shoulders he got it. That horse will work harder to avoid doing something that would be easier to just do. Silly M&M  .

Shorten up your circle , she just dosent undrrstand..they have a left side brain and right side .. Switching side is like starting over..if she dosent know that dirention well just needs to be the focus for now and be sure your behind the drive line.

Sometimes they favour one side because they are stiff on the other or may need to see a Chiropractor - so just be aware of that !

youre right lipi , I had an ISH who would only lunge one way , I had a chiropractor look at him , he worked on him for twenty mins gave him a weeks rest and he was back on form , its always worth checking

When I put her in the roundpen she went that way fine, so I'm not sure what her issue is. I didn't have a lungeline or anything, just was free lunging. Which reminds me, I need to upload videos!
