Blood Results

Got Rosies results and she tested negative so not in foal. So at least I know and can relax and dont need to be a paranoid wreck till July. I am dissapointed but not surprised. Might let her live with Sunny for the summer and who knows what will happen. As for Slaney she is 7 days over today and is showing every sign under the sun but her udder remains the same about 75% and very very loose. I asked the vet if the Papilomas could affect and he said no but I have my doubts. The belly has dropped and taking on more of a V shape, botty is soft, vulva swollen and lengthened, poos getting sloppy and she has a dirty bum. On Monday she was rolling and sitting on her ass pushing back and forth so everything in place sign wise except the udder. I would expect it to be a bit fuller and then before foaling it hardens and teats fill. I have expressed some milk and its almost looks like full fat milk. The teat that has the most warts doesnt express as easily. So still waiting but she must go sometime

 Or insert coffee drinking smiley here.

Drat! I can't get the popcorn eating smiley to work....

I know! Some of the smilies don't work any more!

Happy foal watch to you, Banner. I'm so jealous... I have none coming this year. :( That butt-rubbing is a good sign though. You'll have a foal in no time and then we demand photos.

Had a look at her Papilomas and tried to see if any would pop off and no they wont so I have gone back to the warm olive oil as they are not going to drop off fast enough and I think now I need to soften them some bit for the foal.

I did then express some milk while there (about 2 tsps) and its turning a honey colour so she must be creeping closer :flower

just to confuse you more Banner .....Ive had mares test negative in the past and then drop a foal !!! :rofl :rofl :rofl :hammer

Why did you take 2 whole teaspoons of milk Banner...are you not worried about wasting precious colostrum??

accphotography Mon, 05/24/2010 - 18:44

I seriously, seriously doubt 2 teaspoons is going to have much impact on a foal. ;) She could lose that much just laying down.

slaneyrose Mon, 05/24/2010 - 19:33

Just seems like a lot to just to test milk, and these are minis acc. ;)

PS... i was so worried about it however I expressed 60cc out of her and put it in freezer and she still was fine ... :rofl

Slaneys udder fills to bursting point and foals even have a problem latching on so I usually have to express just to relieve some of the pressure so a couple of tsps here are there wont break the bank. I have also milked her and freezed some after the foal has had his fill and she has LOADS :D . I havent touched her udder now since last Thursday. I just test every now and then to see if there are any major changes.
But the wagon is still hanging tough and if anything her udder looks smaller again today :BH

Have made a plan today with the vet that if there is no foal by Monday he will come and have a look and take bloods (in case its a phantom although I dont think it is) that would bring her up to 349 days but its a full Moon thrusday night so maybe that might spur her on

I always take a full baby bottle, around 200ml, of colostrum off every mare I can, and twice as much "first milk".
I freeze it in breast milk bags!
Mares produce colostrum for the first 24-36 hours of lactation, so it is highly unlikely that a bit taken at the start will have any affect at all.
They really do make loads!
